'Ordinary People': Jack Turns Into A Stud
(The Sun) (12/05/03)
Edited By Michael Bennett
LONDON, UK - THE OSBOURNES' brand new book, "Ordinary People," is out in The UK.
Excerpts from and about JACK OSBOURNE were published this week by The Sun:JACK OSBOURNE is astonished by his transformation to sex god since the start of "The Osbournes." He says: "Until the show aired, the only people who ever talked with me were guys from my dad's live shows or regulars at a Sunset Strip club where I hung out." "But suddenly people were gawping at me on the street. Little kids and grandmas asked for autographs." "Things really started getting warped when we went to the Emmy Awards. Brad Pitt strolled up just to tell me what he thought of the show." "All I could do was stand there thinking, 'What is going on here?'" "Not long afterwards I was at a club and Britney Spears asked me to come over and say hi. Drew Barrymore came up to me. It was all just totally insane. Not only that, the girls have been completely amazing." Jack's sister Kelly, 19, says: "I got ill at the sight of all these women -- not girls but grown women -- going after Jack. "A lot of incredibly weird things have happened to my family since the show began but in my estimation the transformation of Jack Osbourne into Brad Pitt ranks among the most mind-boggling." Jack says: "For the record, I lost my virginity when I was 14. Sex is so casual it's ridiculous." "It's very hollow. It's no longer about love-making." I've never been in love -- the adult, deep, meaningful kind of love. I look forward to it. "But people my age aren't thinking about a deep experience." "If I'm at a club, meet a girl and she wants to come back to my house and do the deed, am I supposed to say, 'No thanks, I need to be in love?'" "No, I don't think Jack Osbourne says that." And life has not been all fun. Jack says: "We've been through a lot in the last year as a family. We have dealt with alcoholism and drug addiction, infidelity, abuse, depression, wealth, fame, learning disabilities, weight problems and dudes who drive up every day and yell, 'Ozzy, come out! You rule!'" "My mum has had cancer and I have been in rehab." "Did I abuse drugs and alcohol? I didn't used to think so." "Of course, in retrospect, I fucked up. I thought I could handle everything but it ended up handling me." Jack, who says he first used alcohol and marijuana at 13, recalls: "I remember a party in Malibu. I didn't realize a glass had broken on the floor. I was walking barefoot through it." "Kelly comes up to me and says, 'Jack, your feet!' and there was blood all through the house." Sharon, 50, remembers the moment this year when Jack confessed his problems were spiralling out of control. "It was night and I was in bed when Jack came into my bedroom." "I knew he had been drinking and I thought he was high but I had no idea what was really going on until he told me, 'Mum, I think I have a drug problem. I think I need help.' He started to cry." "'Oh my God,' I thought. My nightmare." "How many times had Ozzy and I talked about how one or more of the kids might inherit his tendency for addiction?" "A girlfriend's friend had given him some very addictive painkiller called Vicodin and also some ground-up narcotic pain reliever called OxyContin." "I felt guilty for not being more aware. How could I not know?" "I spent the night in Jack's room. He was like a boy who'd had a nightmare. He didn't want to be alone." "Jack spent several days detoxing in the Pasadena hospital's psych ward." "That put him in a terrible mood. He asked to come home and we said no." After two weeks Jack was moved from Pasadena to rehab in Malibu, then an Alcoholics Anonymous course." Jack recalls: "I had a group session with my dad. He started freaking out and getting all emotional. I was so moved by it." "It just kind of dawned on me, 'I don't want to die.'" Ozzy says: "This ordeal has brought Jack and me closer. I know what my son is going through. I've been through rehab 14 times. "When I found out the full depth of him getting into OxyContin -- which is like hillbilly heroin -- I was shocked and stunned."
