EDGEWATER 'Not Robots' On Latest Release
EDGEWATER
06.30.06 (RockAndMetal.com) When an executive at a previous record company told EDGEWATER it needed to change its sound because "rock is dead," the band walked away. "We will be what we want to be," says steadfast band member Matt Moseman. "We're a rock band - not circus monkeys on a chain. Fame and glory isn't what we're after. This is our life. We have to be able to say 'yes' to 'Is this going to make me feel proud of what I do?'" Rock lives once more on the band's aptly titled "We're Not Robots...," which will be released via Rock Ridge Music/Forevergreen Records on August 22nd. From the innovative 'Caught In The Moment' with its cheerleader refrain to the anthemic 'Get It Right' and in-your-face 'Rock Is Dead,' "We're Not Robots..." is a powerful statement of defiance for a band that refuses to compromise. "Wind-Up Records gave us an opportunity, fueled the fire and taught us a lot," says Moseman. "We just ended up on different pages. Now I can't wait to see what our future holds. We're going to keep creating, changing and hopefully gaining fans. We're going to make a difference with our music but also have fun with what we do. When it's not fun, it's just another job. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, you can sell 20 million albums and still not be happy." Dallas-based Edgewater gained national notice with 2004's "South Of Sideways," whose 'Eyes Wired Shut' was also a lead single from the gold-certified soundtrack album to "The Punisher." The band then toured the country with gold/platinum artists Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Seether, and Default. Member Micah Creel describes the band's music as "modern melodic rock." "We're Not Robots..." was constructed with patience. "We spent time with each song," says Moseman, "did two or three at a time and mixed them before moving on to the next songs. There was no manager telling us what to do, no outside influences. We had complete freedom, no holds barred." From odd time signatures and aggressive vocals on top of Rock melodies, from thinking outside the box and searching for notes that are more than simply straightforward to lyrics that pack a punch, Edgewater are indeed different. "We're just trying to find that something new we can be proud of," says Moseman. "We are not robots -- and rock is not dead."

FU MANCHU Signs One With Liquor And Poker
FU MANCHU
06.29.06 (RockAndMetal.com) After nine albums and countless tours, FU MANCHU have signed a worldwide recording agreement with Liquor And Poker Music. Their tenth release will surface in early 2007 on that label in America and on Century Media in Europe, while an Asian release will be confirmed in the coming months. "Fu Manchu are one of the most influential rock groups of recent times," says Marco Barbieri, president of Century Media and Liquor And Poker Music's "high roller." "We're proud and excited to welcome the band to our roster, and we look forward to being part of a new chapter of their impressive history." Founded by guitarist/vocalist Scott Hill, Fu Manchu debuted their '70s-inspired fuzz Rock on 1994's acclaimed "No One Rides For Free." Over the next decade, the group received extensive international acclaim for such landmark albums as 1996's "In Search Of...," the following year's "The Action Is Go," 2000's "King Of The Road" and "California Crossing" in 2001. Most recently, the group released "Start The Machine" in 2004, supported by a nationwide tour with Corrosion Of Conformity. The band -- which for the last four-plus years has featured Hill, drummer Scott Reeder (ex-Smile) and long-time members Bob Balch (guitars) and Brad Davis (bass) -- also has several famous alumni: Nebula mainstays Eddie Glass and Ruben Romano, as well as former Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age drummer Brant Bjork. Fu Manchu will track their new album at Hollywood's Grandmaster Recorders studios (Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Black Crowes) -- where they also recorded "In Search Of..." and "The Action Is Go" -- with co-producer Andrew Alekel (Weezer, Rancid, Queens of the Stone Age). The band plans to record 13 new songs and, in their classic fashion, three cover songs in The Cars' 'Moving In Stereo,' Void's 'Who Are You' and Van Halen's 'D.O.A.' "We are excited to be working with Liquor and Poker and the entire Century Family," Hill says. "We feel that they really understand rock bands like us. Our new record is heavier, thicker, fuzzier and more aggressive than anything that we've done for a while. We can't wait to get this record out and then hit the road to play these songs live."

GENE SIMMONS Settles Suit With Ex-Girlfriend
GENE SIMMONS
06.28.06 (AP) GENE SIMMONS of Kiss has settled a defamation lawsuit brought against him by a former girlfriend who charged that he made her sound like a "sex-addicted nymphomaniac" during a documentary shown on VH1. The settlement, announced Wednesday, said the "amicable resolution" of Georgeann Walsh Ward's lawsuit over the way she was portrayed in the documentary "When Kiss Ruled The World" involved no payment of money to her. Ward, 53, was a girlfriend of Simmons' in the 1970s. She filed the lawsuit in January 2005, alleging that the documentary defamed her by juxtaposing Simmons' commentary about himself with photographs that included her. The settlement of Ward's lawsuit, announced by Simmons spokesman Stan Rosenfield, includes recognition by her that the rocker played no role in the production, editing or selection and inclusion of her photographs in the documentary. The documentary chronicled the band's 30-year career, its impact on Rock music and the its "wild" antics during a career that produced hits such as 'Rock And Roll All Nite' and 'Detroit Rock City.' Simmons says during the show, "There wasn't a girl that was off limits, and I enjoyed every one of them," Ward's court papers say. They say photos of her appeared 11 times during the documentary, which was shown on the cable television music network several times in July and August 2004. In it, Simmons claimed to have had sexual encounters with 4,600 women. Simmons says in the documentary, "I was a 24-hour whore. All I ever thought about was sex." This, court papers say, was followed by a photo of Ward with him. Ward's papers say that because a photo of her with Simmons - though her name is never mentioned - was shown during remarks about his sexual adventures, she was in effect portrayed as "wild" and "unchaste." Simmons denied that any inferences suggested by Ward could be reasonably drawn or understood from the documentary. "I value my early relationship with Ms. Ward and wish her well," Simmons said in the announcement. "My quotes in the documentary that Ms. Ward took issue with were solely about me, not Ms. Ward or anyone else."

SHADOWS FALL Returns On New 'Fallout' Disc
SHADOWS FALL
06.28.06 (RockAndMetal.com) SHADOWS FALL have returned with their much-anticipated new release, "Fallout From The War," which had a strong first week at retail entering the Billboard Top 200 chart at #83 and SoundScanning over 12,700 copies. The album's sessions were again produced and mixed by long-time friend, Zeuss (Hatebreed, God Forbid), at Planet Z Studios in the band's home state of Massachusetts. Brian Fair (vocals) checks in with the following report: "I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of our fans that went out and picked up our new album, 'Fallout From The War.' The support is most appreciated. We are getting ready to head back out on the road for the first time in a long time. This year's Strhess Tour is going to be sick and I for one can't wait to get back onstage to rock out with all of our friends across the country. This is the only tour we will be doing this year, so we want everyone to come out and throw it down with us before we have to lock ourselves back in the studio. We have been getting a setlist together and plan on adding some new songs from the new record into the set, as well as playing a few older songs that we have not busted out onstage for awhile. Paul [Romanko] and I just were just up at the MTV studios with Jamey Jasta filming an interview piece for Headbangers Ball and they had the tribute to Dimebag Six String Masterpiece collection on the set. It was definitely an unreal sight to behold. They are all Dean guitars that different artists and musicians custom decorated as a memorial to the memory of the one and only Dimebag Darrell. You don't want to miss this, and our new video for 'In Effigy' will also make its television debut, so keep an eye out. It is a great performance video that captures the vibe well by just focusing on the band and the pure intensity of the song. Hope to see everyone on the road soon." "Fallout From The War" follows the group's most acclaimed disc to date, "The War Within," which originally debut at #20 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, has gone on to sell over 250,000 units in the U.S. alone, and features the Active Rock hit and Grammy-nominated track 'What Drives The Weak.'

STARSAILOR's 'On The Outside' Due For U.S.
STARSAILOR
06.27.06 (RockAndMetal.com) STARSAILOR return on August 22nd to the U.S. with their third album to date entitled "On The Outside." Meanwhile, the digital release of three song EP featuring three tracks from the album, 'In The Crossfire,' 'Counterfeit Life,' and 'Jeremiah' just became available today. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rob Schnapf, the first single from "On The Outside" in the U.S. is 'In The Crossfire,' which features singer James Walsh spitting out a quintessential Starsailor lyric: "I don't see myself when I look in the mirror; I see who I should be." The passion is there as well on the songs 'Counterfeit Life' and 'In My Blood,' two Gospel-tinged tracks that complete a devastating opening triptych. "With our last album, 'Silence Is Easy,' Walsh reflects, "we'd be recording the album and reading about ourselves in the paper or seeing a picture of ourselves or playing a gig, all at the same time. Whereas with this one, it was totally focused, totally inspired." Taking their name from the title of a Tim Buckley LP, Starsailor have enjoyed an immense amount of success since the release of their debut album "Love Is Here" in 2002. Both their debut and it's follow up, "Silence Is Easy" (which featured two tracks produced by the legendary Phil Spector), were platinum sellers in the UK. The group has developed a diehard following around the world as well, due to their lengthy touring schedule, solid musicianship and catchy songs. Originally released in the UK as an 11-track album, the U.S. release of "On The Outside" includes a 12th bonus track entitled 'Empty Streets.' Starsailor will launch their first U.S./Canadian tour in over two and a half years in Montreal in early September. The 19-city tour will feature stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco among others, with a full tour schedule set to be announced shortly. "We can't wait to get back to America and see the reactions of the audiences to our new songs," comments Starsailor bassist James Stelfox. "That what it's always been about for us - sparking that connection in concert with our music."

STEREOPHONICS 'Language' DVD Expected
STEREOPHONICS
06.26.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Liberation Entertainment will release the DVD companion to STEREOPHONICS' 2005 studio album "Language. Sex. Violence. Other?" on July 31st. The DVD incorporates the making of the band's fifth studio album, the addition of drummer Javier Weyler, the 2005 world tour, promo videos for four singles ('Dakota,' 'Superman,' 'Devil' and 'Rewind'), through to the production of "Live From Dakota," their recent live album. Presented and produced by Stereophonics themselves, this exclusive documentary tracks the band from the Spring of 2004 through to the Winter of 2005. Packed with never-before-seen on tour interviews and behind the scenes footage, the DVD version of "Language. Sex. Violence. Other?" is the closest look at the band yet. A 30-minute documentary contains personal footage from the band and co-producer Jim Lowe, and shows the band as they return from touring in 2004 and start recording the demos which would go on to make up the "Language. Sex. Violence. Other?" album tracks. The band takes the camera along to film those first recording sessions at The Stone Rooms and Sahara Sound with Lowe. The band goes on to take fans through the evolution of the album process - from the recording of the original demos to the making of the finished album at Hook End Studios. This is followed by designer Graham Rounthwaite talking through the concepts behind the artwork and continuing with an interview with director Charles Mehling talking through the process of conceptualizing the four videos and working alongside the band. The film finishes in late 2005, with the band concluding their world tour and with the release of "Live From Dakota." The DVD also offers a chance to catch their rocking live show as well, with highlights from the set list including 'Mr. Writer' from 2001's "Just Enough Education To Perform" album, 'Just Looking,' taken from 1999's "Performance And Cocktails" album, and the top ten singles 'Maybe Tomorrow' and 'Madame Helga' from 2003's "You Gotta Go There To Come Back," and Dakota - their first-ever UK No. 1 single.

KEITH MOON '75 Solo LP Seeing Re-Release
KEITH MOON
06.23.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Castle Music in association with Sanctuary Records has announced the July 3rd re-release of the only solo album ever released by The Who's celebrated drummer, the late, great Keith Moon. The 1975 album "Two Sides Of The Moon" is now expanded for the first time and features a multitude of previously unreleased bonus material including out-takes, special mixes, and even some rare spoken word. The release coincides with the 60th anniversary of Keith Moon's birthday, and the 40th anniversary of the "Pictures Of Lily" limited-edition Keith Moon replica drum kit. The release also dovetails a forthcoming film biopic, "See Me Feel Me," which will star "Austin Powers" creator Mike Myers as Keith Moon. "Two Sides Of The Moon" album includes collaborations with Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Flo & Eddie, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, John Sebastian, Steve Cropper, Dick Dale, Joe Walsh, Fanny, John Sebastian, and is compiled by resident Who expert Andy Neil, and mastered by Jon Astley. Keith Moon is considered by many to be the original archetypal "wildman" Rock 'N' Roll drummer. As the original powerhouse drummer for The Who, Moon wrote the book on Rock 'N' Roll excess and paid the ultimate price when -- at the young age of just thirty-two -- he unexpectedly passed away from a drug overdose in 1978. Keith Moon occasionally contributed and performed on other peoples' records, however, he released his only bonafide solo effort in 1975. Never taken seriously upon its original commercial release thirty-one years ago, "Two Sides Of The Moon" now appears to have captured the essence of Keith Moon's unique and gifted talents. Recorded in a series of marathon sessions that were as notable for their huge bills for alcohol as the studio time involved, the collection of songs are a haunting mix of innocent '50s/early-'60s Rock 'N' Roll and leering, joyful lust, and a savage sense of wit directed at the music business and played out both between and in the songs themselves. The new edition of "Two Sides Of The Moon" includes nearly 2 hours of bonus material that has never been heard publicly until now.

LACUNA COIL Returning To U.S. For Ozzfest
LACUNA COIL
06.23.06 (RockAndMetal.com) LACUNA COIL will make their much-anticipated return to the U.S. on June 29th as part of this year's Ozzfest main stage lineup. The massive summer trek will also coincide with the release of the band's new single 'Enjoy The Silence,' which will impact commercial radio on July 11th. The video for the track, completed by the directorial team Fort Awesome, who also shot the group's acclaimed 'Our Truth' clip, will make its debut that same week. Since its release, Lacuna Coil's new album, "Karmacode," has SoundScanned over 100,000 units and spent a total of eight weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The album's success can be partly contributed to the strength of 'Our Truth,' the lead-off single, and an impressive live television performance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," which took place last month. The track was added by over 75 Commercial Rock and Alternative Radio outlets (and played by well over 125 Commercial Outlets), becoming a Top 30 Active Rock single while spending over 2 1/2 months on the Top 40 Active Rock Radio Chart and reaching a monitored Arbitron audience of over 11 million listeners. Lacuna Coil have also scheduled a number of high profile off-dates this summer with the likes of Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed, among others. The band's Andrea Ferro (male vocals) checks in with the following report: "Hi everyone, just checkin' in from home. We are almost done with our round of European festivals, and it's really been a blast! Some shows we played in front of some of the biggest crowds we've ever seen, and with so many of our favorite bands. The summer is finally kickin' in and things are looking great for us since we will be performing on the main stage of Ozzfest this year. I clearly remember what happened in 2004 when this new band from Italy first had the pleasure of taking part in this mythical event. We couldn't believe we were really going to spend the Summer playing in the U.S. in front of so many people each day while being able to hang out with all those icons. It really was a dream come true! To be back this year on the main stage is once again something very unexpected, and a true honor for us. We hope to see ya all there ready to jump and sing along with the new songs. See you all very soon."

TOM PETTY Touring, Topic Of Upcoming Film
TOM PETTY
06.22.06 (RockAndMetal.com) TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS are currently in the midst of their North American "Highway Companions Tour," on which the band are being joined along the way by a list of friends and guests for a series of very special shows, some of which are being performed with Pearl Jam, some with Phish vocalist/guitarist Trey Anastasio, and others with The Allman Brothers Band. As part of the Summer tour, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers recently headlined the Bonnaroo Festival on Friday, June 16th, and the Austin City Limits Festival on Sunday, September 17th. Tom Petty is putting the finishing touches on his third solo album, "Highway Companion," which is produced by Jeff Lynne with Petty and Mike Campbell, and will be released this Summer. Meanwhile, Academy Award-winning director/screenwriter Peter Bogdanovich ("The Last Picture Show," "Paper Moon," "Mask") has started working on a comprehensive feature film/documentary about the band's three-decades-long history. Given unparalleled access to the band, Bogdanovich will intertwine vintage interviews, videos and live performances with special footage that he began shooting late last year. "We shot New Year's Eve at Mike Campbell's house," says Bogdanovich. "We've gone into the studio with Tom while he did voice-overs for his 'King Of The Hill' role, recorded his XM Satellite radio show, we were there when he headlined Bonnaroo, and we've also started to conduct new interviews with Tom, the band, with long-time associates, journalists, and other people who have played a role during the past thirty years. I want to tell this very American story about a small family of musicians who jumped in a car, left Gainesville, Florida, and drove cross-country to get into the music business," explained Bogdanovich. "How they did it, what happened to them as a result, how this affected their families and friends, and the impact their music has had on the music industry and on millions of people's lives. We'll take you through it all - the early Shelter Records days, touring with Bob Dylan, the Grammys and other awards, the Hall Of Fame induction, working with Johnny Cash in the recording studio, and The Traveling Wilburys." No title or release information has been finalized as of yet. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have sold more than 50 million records and have also been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards over their lengthy career. They were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002.

SICK PUPPIES See Their First Digital Release
SICK PUPPIES
06.20.06 (RockAndMetal.com) SICK PUPPIES' first digital release, "Headphone Injuries," was issued today via Adrenaline Music Group. Their first single, 'My World,' is an energetic slice of modern Rock that's bound to hook listeners into wanting more. Sick Puppies are a guitar-fueled three-piece Rock band out of Australia who now stand on the threshold of having just achieved their singular goal: the global release of the album they were born to make. The band carries an awesome energy on stage and a staggering sound fronted by the fretwork and awesome vocals of guitarist and singer Shimon Moore. Conspiring in the sonic stew that make up Sick Puppies is bassist Emma Anzai who has been justifiably dubbed "the female Flea." Uniting the band is the airtight pummeling of drummer Mark Goodwin, who is truly one of the harder hitters around. The band was born when the two greatest outcasts of Mosman High School met each other in the only safe haven either of them knew...the music room. Moore and Anzai began jamming on Green Day and Rage Against The Machine songs until the urge to make their own sound took over and they began penning the loudest and most powerful songs that they could play. Just months later, Sick Puppies beat out 3,000 other bands in a demo competition run by the only national radio network in Australia. As a direct and rapid result, the band were thrust into the limelight, and with their first recording experience behind them. The band's first year culminated in them being crowned "Best Live Act" at the Australian Live Music Awards. Since that time, the achievements and highlights have flowed thick and fast, including tours with Good Charlotte, The Butterfly Effect, and legendary bands Deep Purple and Midnight Oil. However, amid the fanfare of all Sick Puppies' early achievements remained a burning desire to take their music to the next level. To that end, a pact was made to take the band to the ends of the earth and back, beginning with the writing and recording of the songs that they knew would resonate with a worldwide audience. The band recorded "Headphone Injuries" in Los Angeles, which will be released on CD in the next month or so.

IRON MAIDEN To Release Next Studio Album
IRON MAIDEN
06.20.06 (RockAndMetal.com) IRON MAIDEN will release their next studio album, entitled "A Matter Of Life And Death," on September 5th via Sanctuary Records. The band started writing songs at the end of 2005 after a short break from their hugely successful festival appearances in Europe and the USA. The songs were completed and rehearsed when the band got together after Christmas to work with producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley at Sarm West Studios in London to start in on recording the backing tracks. Kevin Shirley has now co-produced three of the band's studio albums alongside Steve Harris, as well as two of their recent live DVDs and albums. Says Shirley: "The Beast is back!" He continues: "I feel from the outset we all clicked on this one. We spent two months in the studio - from Nicko's "tubs up" to final mixes and sequenced master. That's a tiny gestation period for an album. Producing Iron Maiden is like driving one of those mammoth automatons from Star Wars. There's nothing that can stop it!" As on previous projects, all of the tracks were performed live and together in one room. Says Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris: "I think in many ways this has been the easiest album, in terms of recording, that we've ever done. The whole process of writing through to recording was very natural. I also think in terms of the material, we've pushed our boundaries yet again, which I think will please our fans, but also really surprise a lot of people as well. The sound we've managed to get is very powerful for a Maiden record and all of us have pushed ourselves in our own ways to create something that we're all immensely proud of. I think working as quickly as we did with Kevin was part of that process. We simply can't wait to take this out on the road. We've played some great shows and had a lot fun introducing some of our older songs to a new generation of fans. However for us, personally, we're incredibly excited about getting out and performing these new tracks." Says Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson: "This album has to be our best one since we began working with Kevin. There is such a wide scope of musicianship, and in parts this album is truly epic. I thought with the likes of 'Paschendale,' from the last studio album, that we could only hope to surpass that. Having now heard the album back, as well as sitting with a few select people and hearing their reactions, I truly believe we have managed it. Every one of us has put everything into this record and it has really paid off. We've had such fun making it that it's almost difficult to believe what we've managed to achieve in the time it took."

PAUL McCARTNEY Really Gets To Sixty-Four
PAUL McCARTNEY
06.19.06 (AP) As a young Beatle, PAUL McCARTNEY wondered what it would be like to be 64. On Sunday he found out. But far from the enduring love he described when, as a teenager, he wrote The Beatles' classic 'When I'm Sixty-Four,' McCartney finds his life in turmoil after he and second wife Heather Mills decided to separate after a four-year marriage. The separation is being played out in the full glare of publicity as intense as anything McCartney experienced during his days as a member of the world's most famous rock group. Mills, 38, has been the subject of a torrent of tabloid allegations about her past life and has pledged to sue one British newspaper. "One of the worst aspects of going through what Heather and I are currently going through is the malicious spreading of rumors and made-up facts that is happening in some areas of the media," McCartney said in a recent message on his Web site. McCartney's spirits may be at a low ebb but he remains a national institution in Britain and adored by millions of fans around the world. Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper said McCartney's daughters Stella and Mary planned to celebrate his 64th birthday by throwing a barbecue for close friends and family on Sunday at his estate at Peasmarsh, East Sussex, in southern England. In contrast to the frugal old age he foresaw in 'When I'm Sixty-Four,' taking holidays "if it's not too dear," McCartney is one of Britain's wealthiest people. Legal experts say he could lose up to a quarter of his 825 million pound ($1.53 billion) fortune in a divorce settlement. Liverpool-born McCartney recorded "When I'm Sixty-Four" as a tribute to his father Jim -- who turned 64 in 1966. He wrote the song as a teenager but it was not released until the Beatles' legendary album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." McCartney's beloved first wife Linda died of breast cancer in 1998. He married Mills, a former model turned charity campaigner against land mines and seal hunting, in 2002. McCartney, who has three adult children from his first marriage, became a father again at 61 when Mills gave birth to Beatrice in 2003. He also adopted Linda's daughter from her first marriage. He has three grandchildren, although none bear the names of those in the song: Vera, Chuck and Dave.

STONE SOUR's Taylor Struggled With Drinking
STONE SOUR
06.16.06 (RockAndMetal.com) If it weren't for STONE SOUR vocalist Corey Taylor's wife, Scarlett, there might never have been a second album from the band. She didn't exactly encourage the Slipknot frontman to return to the studio with his side project - she just prevented him from doing himself in before the record was written. "I tried to jump off the balcony of the eighth floor of the Hyatt on Sunset [Boulevard] on November 14th, 2003," Taylor explained. "Somehow she stopped me. It wasn't the first time I tried to kill myself, either." Back then, Taylor was a full-blown alcoholic. He drank from the moment he woke up to the second he blacked out, and while he says drinking didn't impair his ability to write, play and perform, it destroyed almost everything else in his life. "I would disappear for long periods with no regard for my own safety or anyone else's," he said. "I wouldn't even know where I was until the next morning. I didn't care about myself, my family, anything. I'd just remember being at a bar, and then all of a sudden - nothing." After Taylor's near-suicide, his wife gave him an ultimatum: either he sober up and become a dedicated husband and father, or she was taking their two kids and leaving. It wasn't the first time she'd made such a threat - but this time he knew she meant it, and for the first time in his life he felt the urge to change. "I took a good, long look in the mirror and I hated what I saw," he said. "I was very bloated, I looked like crap. It wasn't me. And that was it. I haven't touched a drop since." Stone Sour's new album, "Come What(ever) May," which is due in August, is stocked with ruminations about Taylor's drinking days and confessions about his road to recovery. "The first year I was sober was probably the worst year of my life," Taylor continued. "My immune system was screwed. I completely isolated myself. I was weak all the time. I didn't know who I was. Sometimes you define yourself by your vices, and I was known as the partyer. I was the guy that was always ready to go out and do shots. And all of a sudden, I had to figure out who I was without that, and it took me a long time. I pushed my wife away for a while and was a really selfish, cold dick." It was only after Taylor stopped lamenting the loss of his former life that he realized being sober wasn't a creative limitation. Suddenly, he felt more alive, more motivated and far less cynical. "I came to the realization that I'm more interested in doing good than bad," he said. "I'm more interested in helping people. And that was a big step. Every day I just got stronger and, unfortunately, more honest. I just decided I was sick of pulling punches."

INKED IN BLOOD Kick Off Six-Week U.S. Trek
INKED IN BLOOD
06.15.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Hardcore outfit INKED IN BLOOD have kicked off a six-week tour alongside Scars Of Tomorrow, Calico System, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and later Nodes Of Ranvier, The Warriors, and Society's Finest in support of their current album for Facedown Records, entitled "Lay Waste The Poets." With heavy hitters like Himsa and Champion leading the way, striving to be a successful, up-and-coming Hardcore band in the Pacific Northwest these days is no easy task. Some might even say it's a fruitless endeavor. Inked In Blood, however, beg to differ. The boys in the band refuse to back down to their predecessors, and like a stubborn bulldog that fights when the odds are stacked against it, they proceed in the face of adversity. In the Spring of 2004, Inked In Blood dropped a melodic Hardcore bomb on an unsuspecting public with the release of their "Awakening Vesuvius" EP. With lyrics that reach far beyond the typical "teen angst" issues, Inked In Blood strive to reach their audiences with concepts such as humility, humanity, compassion and life as process, not as product. With their motto of "hit 'em hard and hit 'em fast," be prepared for live acrobatic stage antics with plenty of finger-points, pileups and breakdowns. Tour Dates: 06/15 Hamden, CT [Elks Lodge] 06/16 Sayreville, NJ [Starland Ballroom] 06/17 Fredericksburg, VA [KC's] 06/18 Augusta, GA [Sector 7G] 06/19 Baton Rouge, LA [The Darkroom] 06/20 Houston, TX [Java Jazz] 06/21 San Antonio, TX [The White Rabbit] 06/23 Gainesville, TX [The State Theatre] 06/24 Albuquerque, NM [The Compound] 06/25 Denver, CO [Bluebird Theatre] 06/26 Cedar City, UT [The Boondocks] 06/27 Las Vegas, NV [Rock N Java] 06/28 Fresno, CA [The Belmont] 06/29 Roseville, CA [The Underground] 06/30 Lancaster, CA [Cedar Center] 07/01 Corona, CA [Showcase Theatre] 07/02 Hollywood, CA [Whisky A Go Go] 07/03 Phoenix, AZ [The Clubhouse] 07/20 Denver, CO [The Marquis Theatre] 07/21 Ogden, UT [Club Boom Va] 07/22 Boise, ID [The Venue] 07/23 Tacoma, WA [Hell's Kitchen] 07/26 Orangevale, CA [Boardwalk] 07/27 San Diego, CA [Soma] 07/28 Corona, CA [Showcase Theatre] 07/29 Victorville, CA [Trilogy Theater] 07/30 Tempe, AZ [The Clubhouse] 08/01 San Antonio, TX [The White Rabbit] 08/03 Houston, TX [Java Jazz] 08/05 Memphis, TN [Skatepark Of Memphis] 08/06 Nashville, TN [The Muse]

STEVE MILLER's 'Fly Like An Eagle' Turns 30
STEVE MILLER
06.14.06 (RockAndMetal.com) On June 27th, Capitol Records will release the 30th Anniversary Edition of the classic "Fly Like An Eagle" album by the STEVE MILLER BAND. One of the seminal Rock albums of the 1970's and, thirty years hence, its hits are still staples at classic Rock radio. The original album has been remastered for the CD and is presented in 5.1 Surround Sound on an accompanying DVD. "With the Surround Sound mix, people will finally hear the album the way I originally intended it to be heard," says Miller, noting that it was originally recorded for Quadraphonic sound systems. The DVD also contains an exclusive interview with Miller on the making of the record and a two-hour concert. Filmed in September of 2005 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA, the concert footage was taken straight from the live recording made for the giant screen close-ups the night of the show. The result is an undoctored snapshot of the current-day Steve Miller Band. Highlights include a 20-minute version of 'Fly Like An Eagle' with guest guitarist Joe Satriani and appearances by George Thorogood, Paraguayan Gypsy fiddler/harpist Carlos Reyes, and Classical composer Nolan Gasser, who accompanied Miller on piano for the Nat King Cole classic, 'Nature Boy.' To celebrate the release of the 30th Anniversary Edition of "Fly Like An Eagle," which also features three previously unreleased bonus tracks, the Steve Miller Band launching a steady tour of dates in early July that will keep them on the road into November. "We just love to play," says Miller. "This tour will be a blend of everything - we'll do our greatest hits, some acoustic stuff and we'll also be mixing in a lot of jazz and blues." After the success of 1973's "The Joker," the Steve Miller Band's first platinum album, Miller took some time off and retreated to a home he had purchased on a remote hilltop in Marin County, outside Novato, California, where he built a recording studio. It was there that he spent months scrupulously overdubbing "Fly Like An Eagle" and its successor, "Book of Dreams" (the albums had been recorded at CBS Studios in San Francisco). Originally released in May of 1976 against the backdrop of America's Bicentennial celebration, "Fly Like An Eagle" proved to be a career-defining album for the Steve Miller Band. With over four million copies sold to date, "Fly Like An Eagle" is the band's biggest-selling studio album. It spent nearly two years on the Billboard 200, peaking at #3 and yielding the Top 40 singles 'Rockin' Me' (which was the band's second #1 single following 1973's 'The Joker'), the title track, which reached #2 on the... ALL THAT REMAINS Ready 'Fall Of Ideals' LP
ALL THAT REMAINS
06.14.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Prosthetic Records recording artists ALL THAT REMAINS are set to release their new album, "The Fall Of Ideals," on July 11th. The explosive Metal quintet has come to be known for their heavy riffs, memorable hooks and rowdy live shows. Revolver Magazine recently dubbed them "the future of American metal." "People have a certain idea of what this band is, and when they hear the new stuff...it's a new approach to our style," vocalist Phil Labonte says. "It's almost like a new way to look at an old friend." With a desire to continually evolve, yet retain the trademark heavy and technically-skilled sound that All That Remains has established with the band's breakthrough album, 2004's "This Darkened Heart," Labonte and company have done just that with "The Fall Of Ideals." Where the last record found the band intertwining heavy music, virtuoso solos, and unmatchable melody, All That Remains' current collective goal is to build on elements that the last album only hinted at. "Everything we did on 'This Darkened Heart,' we are turning up a notch," Labonte says. "This disc will have some of the most aggressive, and some of the most friendly, pieces of music All That Remains has ever written." After initially forming in 1998 as a side project for Labonte and guitarist Oli Herbert, the band left a stamp on the underground Metal scene with their debut album, 2002's "Behind Silence And Solitude." After bringing in guitarist Mike Martin and releasing "This Darkened Heart" to rave reviews in 2004, All That Remains landed high-profile tours and shows alongside the likes of Gwar, The Crown, Arch Enemy, Darkest Hour, Shadows Fall, Lamb Of God and Slipknot, and toured virtually non-stop. "The Fall Of Ideals" is the culmination of the original ideals, ideas, and elements that All That Remains was initially founded upon. Combining grinding riffs, unrelenting rhythms and the tandem fluidity of Martin and Herbert's shredding alongside Labonte's ever-expanding vocal repertoire of soaring notes and guttural growls, the band has now become everything it has been striving for since its inception. "We're now at the point where we're the band I always wanted to us to be," Labonte says. "Musically, we're capable of doing what I originally wanted to do. As musicians, we can all live up to that goal." All That Remains has an already busy 2006 with appearances on the European leg of the Sounds Of The Underground tour and a stateside run on Ozzfest, as well as headlining duties in the Fall.

CITIES IN DUST Debut Now Out On Paper Bag
CITIES IN DUST
06.13.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Canada's CITIES IN DUST have released their debut album, "Night Creatures," via Paper Bag Records. Hype isnt really what the band has received as of yet - "buzz" is closer to appropriate. For Cities In Dust, the crowd grows steadily, with every gig that passes. Making music can be so inexplicable that even those involved may not know where the music comes from. Cities in Dust know the elements, the ingredients, that go into their music but the outcome cannot be broken back down into those elements and traced back to the source. In other words, when the four members of Cities in Dust write a song, it comes out sounding like Cities in Dust but exactly how and why is beyond their grasp. Vocalist Zach Frank met guitarist Simon Toye and the other band members separately, and eventually coaxed them all to form a band. When they first met in bassist Craig Nordemanns basement, it was a first-time meeting for Nordemann, Toye and drummer Matt Winters. For four near-strangers in a basement with instruments, ideas and opinions, it could have gone badly. Simply put, it did not. Cities in Dust found some common ground in Punk and Rock, sharing an appreciation for the likes of Le Tigre and The Rapture; yet each individual fed their own flavors into an already-murky cocktail of influence. The music grew quicker, choppier, and more kinetic. Drummer Matt Winters and bassist Craig Nordemann establish a solid and thunderous bottom end that acts as ballast for Simon Toyes' wiry guitar that crisscrosses above. Meanwhile, Zach Franks' tightly-wound vocals spring like an elastic band, threatening to snap should it stretch any further. The energy of their early music began to draw interest from Hamilton, Ontario audiences almost immediately. Key Management impresario Dan Brooks took notice the first time he saw them, and soon had the band aboard. Brooks' involvement helped Cities in Dust struck up a friendship with Indie label Paper Bag Records, playing shows with Paper Bag artists such as Controller.Controller, Uncut, and Magneta Lane. It wasn't long before the label agreed to support the recording of a debut Cities In Dust album. "Night Creatures" was recorded with Jon Drew of Uncut at Signal To Noise in downtown Toronto. From the bass-heavy bounce of 'Chop Chop, Youre Dead!' to the melodic 'Some Of My Best Friends Are Cheaters,' Cities In Dust have made a strong debut on "Night Creatures."

DAYLIGHT DIES Confirmed For Fall U.S. Tour
DAYLIGHT DIES
06.12.06 (RockAndMetal.com) The first confirmed dates of a Fall tour featuring DAYLIGHT DIES along with Katatonia headliners Moonspell have been announced. Set to kick off in Poughkeepsie, New York, more dates for thetour are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth/Soilwork) and mastered by Thomas Eberger at The Cutting Room (Opeth/The Hives), "Dismantling Devotion" is an album filled with quality musicianship that travels a dark and passionate road. Daylight Dies last toured the U.S. in support of Lacuna Coil in 2003. The band are currently working on their first video and preparing for sold-out shows alongside Emperor in mid-July. When Daylight Dies started as a project of Barre Gambling and Jesse Haff in 1996, little did they know the vehicle they created together what would blossom into one of Metal's most promising upstarts. Due to geographical constraints, the formation of the band was actually delayed three years before an initial rough compilation of raw ideas surfaced as "The Long Forgotten Demo." With a vocalist in place, the trio then proceeded to record a second demo in early 2000, "Idle," which further illustrated the band's musical and compositional growth. A year later, a new two-song demo was recorded. Shipped to various labels who had expressed interest early on, the strength of the music alone was enough to land Daylight Dies an offer from Relapse Records, who released Daylight Dies' debut full-length, entitled "No Reply." After a few lineup changes, the band recorded their second full-length album in "Dismantling Devotion" in August of 2005. Tour Dates: 10/20 Poughkeepsie NY [The Loft] 10/21 Bedford NH [Mark's Place] 10/22 New York NY [BB Kings Blues Club] 10/23 Montreal QUE [Medley] 10/24 Quebec City QUE [L'Imperial] 10/25 Toronto ON [Opera House] 10/26 Cleveland OH [Peabody's] 10/27 Detroit MI [IRock] 10/28 Mokena IL [Pearl Room] 10/29 Columbia Heights, MN [Star Central] 10/31 Aurora CO Iliff [Park Saloon] 11/02 Seattle WA [Studio Seven] 11/03 Portland OR [Rock N Roll Pizza] 11/04 San Francisco CA [Pound @ Pier 96] 11/06 Anaheim CA [House Of Blues] 11/11 San Antonio TX [White Rabbit]

VAUX's 'Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice' Out Soon
VAUX
06.09.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Denver, Colorado's VAUX are set to release their long-delayed album "Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice," which is due to street August 1st. Produced by Garret "Jacknife" Lee (Snow Patrol, U2), and mixed by Dave Sardy (Marilyn Manson, Oasis), the upcoming effort almost didn't get the chance to see the light of day. After touring for nearly a decade and gaining a dedicated fan base, Vaux got their big break when they were picked up by Atlantic Records in 2004. After a grueling year-long period, "Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice" was completed and slated for release - or so they thought. After two years of being shuffled between labels and having their release date shifted further and further back, the band was let go from their contract. And though the experience nearly tore the band apart, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to them. "I think that everything that ended up happening with Atlantic was a blessing in disguise," says Robison. "Because we got back the rights to our album and now we can do things the way we always have - on our own." True to this DIY ethic, the band decided if a major label wasn't going to release this album, they would do it themselves. "We did it full on guerilla style," explains Robison. "The first show we had was in Houston and we'd burn CDs on everyone's laptops in the van, take them outside, spray paint the covers and print out the inserts at Kinko's," he continues. "That's what you need to do, go out and hustle." A huge leap for Vaux musically, "Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice" features the kind of wide stylistic shifts that the band merely hinted at with 2003's "There Must Be Some Way To Stop Them." "Lyrically, I'd say it's a lot more thought out than anything I've done before," says Smith about the thematic content of the album. "I think the problem with pop music is that you can listen to the songs and they're catchy, but there's nothing to digest," he continues. "I was hoping to do something where you can listen to it a bunch of times, and when you're in a good mood it means one thing and when you're in a bad mood it can be something completely different." What really matters is that it's finally here. "The past couple years have been very telling in regards to what kind of band we are," says Robison. "I don't know if it's because we don't give up or we don't know any better - but we just keep doing it."

HAMMERFALL's Oscar Dronjak Posts To Blog
HAMMERFALL
06.09.06 (RockAndMetal.com) HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following update on his official blog: "The 19th European Athletics Championships are being held in Gothenburg in August, and we were going to shoot a video together with a couple of the Swedish athletes - much like we did with the curling team (who went on to win the Olympic gold medal, I might add), only with a specially written, previously unreleased track. The athletes were Robert Kronberg (110 meter hurdles), Alhaji Jeng (pole vault), Johan Wissman (200 meters) and Kajsa Bergqvist (high jump). Robert especially had been looking forward to this for a long time, apparently, and seemed to enjoy every minute of the long day. He played drums in a few takes (!), and rocked for all he was worth, as did the others. I'm sure it will be a really funny video! The highlight of the day for me was definitely the opportunity to do a couple of high jumps. That was always my best sport in school, and I haven't tried it since then. 1.45 meters posed no problem at all, and neither did 1.55, but when I raised the bar another ten centimeters, my body said: 'You know what, brotha, even all my little Hulkamaniacs couldn't force me to get up and jump now' (Why my body sounds like Hulk Hogan, I'll never know). Too tired from last night's drinking and not enough sleep -- that's what I told myself at least -- I could muster one proper jump but no more. Determined to clear the height later, I let it rest. For a while. After lunch, I felt ready to attack the bar again, and just barely missed. Kajsa Bergqvist, most likely the best female high jumper in the world came over to the mat. I was kind of nervous, not only because she has won virtually everything there is to win and is the current world record holder indoors (2.08 meters), but also because I've always admired her. ;-) She gave me some helpful advice, and then I tried it again. Wouldn't you know it, I practically sailed over the bar (I touched it a little, but it stayed in place)! Clearing 1.65 meters wearing stage clothes and only socks, I was quite proud of that effort! I have posted a video of one of the first jumps in the video section here on MySpace: Hammerfall recently entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up to 2005's "Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken," tentatively due this Fall. Song titles set to appear on the album include 'Carved In Stone,' 'Titan,' 'Dark Wings, Dark Words,' 'Shadow Empire,' 'Rebel Inside,' 'Threshold,' 'The Fire Burns Forever,' 'Howlin' With The Pac,' and 'Natural High.'

BIG 10-4 Take To The Road Alongside Samples
BIG 10-4
06.08.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Southeastern powerhouse BIG 10-4 didn't take long warming up to the national tour circuit, landing the opening slot with road-savvy band The Samples this month. On Big 10-4's first go-round to promote their Universal Republic debut, they will carry over the same live energy that helped to pack out clubs and college dives across the Southeastern states with their sweat drenched, sing-along anthems. Dan Verduin (vocals, guitar and piano) says of the bands live appearances, "We're very open to the audience. We'll hang out all night until the last person leaves and talk about it. Every place we've ever played, we've taken it over...because we genuinely love meeting people." The stage will be graced with Verduin's aggressive delivery and undeniable charisma, joined by brother Matt Verduin on lead guitar, James Russo on drums and Matthew Reed on bass. Their debut full length, "Testing The Atmosphere" hit the streets on May 16th, produced by the articulate and edgy Matt Wallace, who is know for his songmanship and jump-out-of the-speakers Pop/Rock gems from Maroon 5, Train, and The Replacements. The combination of Verduin's instinct for infectious songwriting with Wallace's hit making craftsmanship in the studio has derived one of the deeper records in years with tracks like 'Walking Disaster' and 'Tangled' ready to take up residency in your cranium. SCUM OF THE EARTH Begin Writing Next LP
SCUM OF THE EARTH
06.07.06 (RockAndMetal.com) SCUM OF THE EARTH have begun writing new material for their next album for Eclipse Records. The strong Rob Zombie influence that one hears in the band's material is no coincidence, as the the modern Rock/Metal outfit is led by Riggs, the in-your-face singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer who is well-known known for the six years he spent previously in Rob Zombie's employ. In 1998, Riggs appeared in the Rob Zombie video for 'Return Of The Phantom Stranger' playing a guitar adorned with a jagged carving that read, "Scum Of The Earth" - words that are also tattooed on his stomach. Scum Of The Earth is the name of Riggs' publishing company as well. "I always thought it was the coolest name for a band since I was a kid. There was that movie 'Scum Of The Earth,' and I had some of these great 'Scum Of The Earth' comic books I really liked." And so that's how the debut solo outing from Riggs, became Scum of the Earth. His current album, "Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs For The New Millennium," is built around high-propulsion riffs, mechanized beats, growling vocals and horror film soundbytes. Throughout, songs like the carnivalesque 'Get Your Dead On' and the surging 'I Am The Scum' illustrate the type of dynamic, granite-solid musicianship Riggs exhibited for six years with Zombie. "I'm really proud of the work I did with Rob, so I don't mind being compared to him. As long as people don't say Scum sounds like something that sucks," Riggs jokes. "But I did want to do things a little different, so I threw on a couple of acoustic songs that I've had around forever, 'Little Spider' and 'Give Up Your Ghost' so it's not all in-your-face, bash, bash, bash." Most of the songs on "Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs For The New Millennium" were written by Riggs over the past decade, and stored on his computer for a stormy night. Then, when Rob Zombie decided to put his music career on hold to focus on making horror movies, Riggs found himself with extra time on his hands. At the behest of a dedicated fan, he hooked up with some old friends -- including bassist Clay Others and former Powerman 5000 guitarist Mike Tempesta -- from which Scum Of The Earth was unearthed. "There was a girl who had a Riggs fan site that I had gotten to know over the years," Riggs says. "She called me to see what I was doing, and I said, 'Nothing.' Two days later, she sent me a list of all these record companies that were interested in what I was up to, so I just dumped some stuff off my computer in my room and sent it to them and they liked it."

JUSTICE Signs Recording Deal With Reflections
JUSTICE
06.06.06 (RockAndMetal.com) Reflections Records has announced that Belgium's JUSTICE has signed a recording deal with the label. Justice came out of nowhere to firmly make their mark as one of the leading lights in modern-day Hardcore. Their original demo was a sensation, which quickly led to the "Look Alive" EP. Tours, tours and more tours across Europe and America followed, mainly with their good friends in Mental. They then set out to write an LP, after which Justice created an album that oozed energy and passion and one that sounds raw and authentic at the same time had enough variety, hooks and solid songwriting to keep you hooked. From the Supertouch/Underdog influenced opening track 'Elephant Skin' to the raging fury of 'Confrontations,' and from the ultra-catchy, singalong-inducing 'Lose Control' (Warzone anyone?) all the way to the anthemic 'Activate' that sounds like it's a long lost track from the "We're Not In This Alone" sessions, Justice proved that they are on top of their game. Disappointed and at the same time motivated by the comatose state the Hardcore scene was in three years ago, Justice was started to bring back enthusiasm, energy and a genuine love for the genre. Within a year after their first show, Justice had already put out a well-received demo and a 7" debut CD EP, plus they'd already toured the United States and Europe as well. With a renewed lineup comprised of founding members Stief on guitar and Filip on vocals plus Billy on drums and Sike on bass, the band hit the studio once again to record two songs in 'Up And Down' and 'Push It To The Edge' - both songs coming out on a 7" released via the band's own label, Powered Records. With the demo, two EP's and an LP/CD now under their belts -- as well as tours with bands like Underdog, Mental and Righteous Jams -- Justice are celebrating their third anniversary in 2006. At a time where it's getting increasingly harder to tell what's real from what's fake and what is genuine from what is soulless, Justice bring heartfelt enthusiasm, headstrong determination, and above all, honest Hardcore. They also manage to do it their own way, drawing influences from less obvious bands like Supertouch and Quicksand while still retaining their own energetic and authentic sound, with a strong focus on the actual songs. The band will be recording their 2nd full-length LP/CD for Reflections this Fall with Don Fury in New York City, which is slated for a late 2006/early 2007 release.

ROB ZOMBIE To Write & Direct New 'Halloween'
ROB ZOMBIE
06.05.06 (VNU Media) Rocker-turned-filmmaker ROB ZOMBIE is resurrecting Michael Myers, one of the big screen's favorite horror villains. Zombie will write and direct a new "Halloween" movie, serving up what is being called as a brand-new vision for the long-running horror series. He will also serve as a producer and a music supervisor on the film. An October 2007 release is being planned. Disney's Miramax Films will co-finance the development with former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Dimension Films. The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the 1978 original -- which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror business -- but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story. "The look and the feel is going to be completely different," Zombie said in an interview. "'Halloween' started off as a very terrifying concept, a terrifying movie. But over the years, Michael Myers has become a friendly Halloween mask. When it came to the point where you could buy a Michael Myers doll that was cute-looking and press its stomach and play the 'Halloween' theme, you knew the scare factor was gone. "But I think the story and the situation is scary. All it needed was someone to come in and to take a totally different approach to make it scary again. To me, that's the challenge and that's the fun." Needless to say, the movie will not pay heed to the numerous sequels. The last Halloween film, "Halloween: H20," came out in 1998. "Everything that has come before does not figure into this one," Zombie said. "That series is done." And while Zombie aims to keep the scares and the character more real, the mask will remain. "That's an iconic image that can't go away," he said. Zombie wrote and directed "House of 1000 Corpses" and last year's "The Devil's Rejects," which proved to be extremely profitable theatrically and on DVD. A lot of horror movies have been thrown his way, but he wanted to be choosy when it came to his third film. Zombie is a fan of the original and said he sought Carpenter's blessing. "He said, 'That's awesome, go for it,"' Zombie said. "He was very supportive, which I thought was very important. I feel like 'Halloween' is his baby, and I wanted to be very respectful."
