Phil Spector's $1,000,000 Bail Extended Again
(Associated Press) (11/2/03)

PHIL SPECTOR LOS ANGELES, CA - Record producer Phil Spector's $1 million bail was extended a second time while the district attorney's office considers whether to charge him in the shooting death of a woman at his home in February.

Spector, 62, who is free on bail, has denied he killed Lana Clarkson . He suggested in an Esquire magazine interview that Clarkson, an actress and hostess at the House of Blues, may have shot herself.

The decision to extend Spector's bail to Jan. 9 was made between lawyers and the judge in Spector's case, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said Friday. He said he did not know when the decision was made or who had requested the extension.

District attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said she had "no personal knowledge" of the second extension. Spector's lawyer, Robert Shapiro, declined to comment when reached by telephone Friday evening.

In a report submitted Sept. 16, sheriff's detectives concluded Spector shot Clarkson.

Spector, whose "wall of sound" recording technique transformed 1960s pop music, was arrested Feb. 3 after the body of Clarkson, 40, was found in the foyer of his Alhambra mansion.

He produced such hits as "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Then He Kissed Me," and "To Know Him is to Love Him."
