By Michael Bennett
MANCHESTER, NH, USA - Pioneering Thrash Metallers NUCLEAR ASSAULT have geared up for another atomic attack in the form of its first new studio album in 10 years.Vocalist/guitarist John Connelly, guitarist Erik Burke, bass guitarist Danny Lilker and drummer Glenn Evans are putting the finishing touches on their latest songs in Manchester, New Hampshire, at the recording studios of Timothy Koukos - head of Screaming Ferret Wreckords, who plans to release the new album. Connelly, Lilker, Evans and guitarist Anthony Bramante resurrected Nuclear Assault in 2002 at the urging of mutual friends. Their first show was at the famous Metal Meltdown in New Jersey in April of 2002. Nuclear Assault then went on to play select shows in the United States, Europe and South America, including CBGB in New York City and the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. During this time Bramante left, and was replaced by Burke. Further touring commenced in 2003. Nuclear Assault's reunion tour led to the live album "Alive Again," issued earlier this year on Screaming Ferret. It was the band's first release in nine years and it has received positive reviews from Metal Maniacs, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Alternative Press and many other important outlets in the music press. Lilker formed Nuclear Assault in 1984. His influence in the metal scene has been considerable considering the fact that he was also a founding member of Anthrax, S.O.D. and Brutal Truth. The early lineup of Lilker, Connelly, Bramante and Evans quickly grew into one of the most innovative thrash metal bands ever. Nuclear Assault forged its die-hard fan base through utterly relentless touring. The debut album "Game Over" was released in 1986 and over the next several years a series of uncompromising albums followed including the EP "The Plague," "Survive," "Handle With Care," "Out Of Order" (after which Lilker left to focus on Brutal Truth) and "Something Wicked." The 1990 concert video "Live at Hammersmith Odeon" also won praise. Now firmly entrenched on the metal scene once again, Nuclear Assault's singularly focused vision is back, and Lilker says the songs for the new album mark a return to the menacing peak of the band's late-1980's work. Nuclear Assault will undertake yet another intense touring schedule upon the new album's release, scheduled for Spring or Summer. Copyright 2003-2010 Internet Music Media. All rights reserved.
