MICK JAGGER Helps Recreation Of 'Alfie'
MICK JAGGER
10.08.04 (RockAndMetal.com) ROLLING STONES frontman MICK JAGGER made a significant musical contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming new film "Alfie," which features original songs written and performed by Jagger and former Eurythmic Dave Stewart, with guest appearances that include singers Joss Stone, Sheryl Crow and Nadirah "Nadz" Seid. The duet version of 'Old Habits Die Hard' with Jagger and Sheryl Crow partnering up is also the first single and video off "Alfie - Music From The Motion Picture" (which was also produced by both Jagger and Stewart), which is set for release in North America on October 19th via Virgin Records. Elsewhere on the soundtrack album, R&B flavored tracks such as 'Blind Leading The Blind' feature Jagger's unmistakable lead vocals, while blues-inflected instrumental tracks like 'New York Hustle' and 'Standing In The Rain" feature the legendary Jagger showing off his skills on the harmonica. Regarding the creation of the music to "Alfie," Dave Stewart commented: "We worked as a team. Jude Law, who plays Alfie, would come in to the sessions at Abbey Road to hang out, and we'd talk about his character. As with the original 'Alfie,' there's a lot where his character addresses the camera directly, and there's this weird instrumental thing that Mick and I did and Jude was going 'You shouldn't have me talking, this says much more about the scene than me talking.' Unlike a lot of Hollywood movies, where nobody meets each other until the..." [full story]

BEATLES Reggae Tribute Due For Issue
THE BEATLES
10.08.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Trojan Records has announced the coming release of the 3-disc "Trojan Beatles Tribute Box Set," set to be issued by the UK-based label on December 6th. The essential limited edition slipcase-only release should be a must for all fans and lovers of THE BEATLES as well as early Reggae sounds which pay tribute to The Fab Four's inspiration on nearly every major Jamaican artist and songwriter of note. In fact, nearly all of Jamaica's favorite sons and daughters pay homage to THE BEATLES in the "Trojan Beatles Tribute Box Set" from smooth song stylists who appreciated lilting tunes, from artists including JOHN HOLT and MARCIA GRIFFITHS, to such soulful artists as B.B. SEATON, THE BLUES BUSTERS and the inimitable MAYTALS, who transform the song 'Give Peace A Chance' into a virtual gospel rave-up. All those and more are on the first two discs, compiled in the order of release of the group's own hit versions, starting off with GLEN ADAMS performing 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' onto ERNEST RANGLIN performing an instrumental version of 'You Won't See Me' to ROSALYN SWEAT & THE PARAGONS' unique version of 'Blackbird' on the first CD, while the second disc moves from the era of 'I Will' to 'Come And Get It,' originally done by BADFINGER. The third disc gives British-based Reggae artists like DANDY, RICO and the mighty ALTON ELLIS a chance - not to mention the infamous BLACK BEATLES who, like several others, appear here for the very first time.

LULLACRY Hard At Work On Next Album
LULLACRY
10.08.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Finland female-fronted Gothic Rock/Metal band LULLACRY are currently hard at work recording the follow-up album to their 2003 full-length release, "Crucify My Heart." The still-untitled album is set for an early 2005 U.S. release via Century Media. Recently, LULLACRY broke the monotony in between the two albums by releasing their "Fire Within" EP this past August 23rd, which contained two new tracks, two remakes of some earlier LULLACRY tracks and a cover of the W.A.S.P. song 'L.O.V.E. Machine.' Vocalist Tanja checked in recently from the studio with this message: "Here I am in Lappeenranta, at Astia Studio. So far I have recorded the vocals for two songs, and today I'll continue with more. It is a really cool place to stay. There are lots of DVD's and other entertainment stuff. You can sleep, eat and do your work under the same building! It's super... It gives us more flexibility when considering the schedule. The songs are great! I mean the Lullacry guys have really played excellently. It gives me also kicks to do my best." This past Summer, LULLACRY toured the United States with fellow Finlanders NIGHTWISH, where they performed to sold-out audiences. Inspired by the warm reception, the band are hoping to return to North America in early 2005 to coincide with the release of the new album.

DIE TOTEN HOSEN 'Zurueck Zum Glueck'
DIE TOTEN HOSEN
10.07.04 (RockAndMetal.com) With the new album by DIE TOTEN HOSEN, "Zurueck Zum Glueck" ("Back To Joy"), ready to be released this Monday, October 11th, the group really brought things down to the wire by just completing the cover artwork for the album just this week. Nonetheless, the first single from the album, 'Ich Bin Die Sehnsucht In Dir,' has been doing relatively well at European radio. Released last month, the single also contains three bonus tracks which will not be available on "Zurueck Zum Glueck." Following that recently was the 150 minute "Rock Am Ring 2004 LIVE" DVD release, which does contain live versions of three of the songs on the upcoming release, which are 'Song 2,' 'Mad World' and 'Alles Wird Voruebergehen' ('All Things Will Pass'). DIE TOTEN HOSEN have worked on the tracks for "Zurueck Zum Glueck" for the past year and a half. Vocalist Campino recently described the creative process behind the making of the new album: "We collected demos and tracks for about a year and then worked on them and finished them in the four or five months that followed. Especially towards the end we were rather fast, judging by how long we usually take. But a record is only really finished when the master has been sent to be copied in the press." DIE TOTEN HOSEN, meanwhile, are slated to play a month's worth of live dates in their home country of Germany come December.

SATYRICON Enlist Jordison For U.S. Tour
SATYRICON
10.07.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Norwegian Metallers SATYRICON have enlisted SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison to help out on their next U.S. tour, which will kick off on December 2nd. The never ending saga of SATYRICON drummer Frost's inability to enter the U.S. due to heightened homeland security has united band member Satyr and long-time friend Jordison for a three-week run of dates. Satyr has questioned touring possibilities in the U.S. recently: "Frost's visa to enter the States case has made everything extremely difficult for us, and there have even been times I've thought to give up on touring America." Satyr enthuses, "I'm just very glad that we have a new tour lined up. I think all of our fans stateside will agree that Satyricon deserve a better chance to establish the band and our style of music that we believe in more so than we have so far. I think our music, our effort and all the people who believe in Satyricon in the U.S. want us to succeed and Joey Jordison is a good example of that. I never had to convince him that touring with Satyricon would be "cool." It was rather a question of overcoming the practical obstacles with Joey being a key member of a very successful band. His enthusiasm and skills are exactly what Satyricon needs to raise the spirit in the camp. I have looked for drummers over here and most of them are afraid they can't match Frost's level of drumming, so they pull out before we even get started with them. Joey and I have spent a lot of time making sure he is well prepared."

CABARET VOLTAIRE Video Sees Release
CABARET VOLTAIRE
10.07.04 (RockAndMetal.com) The Grey Area of Mute Recordings has released the 1982 long form video "Double Vision Present Cabaret Voltaire" for the first time in DVD format. Upon its original release, it was one of the first independent long form videos ever made, featuring 14 visual representations of CABARET VOLTAIRE tracks including 'Nag Nag Nag', 'Obsession' and 'Diskono.' Double Vision was a communications company initially founded by the band and Paul Smith not only as a vehicle for the original "Double Vision Present Cabaret Voltaire" video release, but also with a view to releasing affordable music-based video for a much more affordable price. Later Double Vision video releases included offerings from THROBBING GRISTLE, THE RESIDENTS, EINSTURZENDE NEUBATEN, 23 SKIDOO, TUXEDOMOON, and many others. To help finance and compliment the video releases, records by CABARET VOLTAIRE, CHAKK, LYDIA LUNCH, ARTO LINDSAY, THE HAFLER TRIO and ERIC RANDOM helped to turn Double Vision into a forward thinking record label which organized various audiovisual events and club nights around England. The label continued throughout the 80's, and left behind an interesting legacy of experimental visual arts and music. Unlike most of today's newfangled audio twists on older releases, the "Double Vision Present Cabaret Voltaire" DVD purposely remains true to to the quality and sound reproduction of the original video.

EDGUY Vocalist Checks In With An Update
EDGUY
10.07.04 (RockAndMetal.com) EDGUY vocalist Tobias Sammet has posted some news about the band's recent experiences on the road touring North and South America on the group's official web site: "The tour is going absolutely great so far, a lot of fun, a lot of non-sense, bad jokes all the time and the greatest fans in the world! The North American shows have been complete successes, with the audience giving EDGUY enthusiastic feedback all along. Well, I guess those four North American shows have been a good step anyway, there is talk about some more shows, but of course we don't know anything official yet, let's wait and cross fingers. We would be very pleased to get the chance and play the U.S. and Canada again a.s.a.p., plenty of reasons. Great fans, loud fans, the Hooters bar in Hollywood! South America welcomed the German Metal jesters very warmly as well. Then Argentina was great too - we'd never been there before and the people were quite loud. But the highlight for EDGUY so far seems to have been Sao Paulo. It was such a great experience, we did some live shooting there and it was an unbelievable feeling to play for such a bunch of great and crazy and loyal and dedicated fans. There was more than 9.000 crazy Metal heads in the house, and every single one of you guys totally freaking out! What a night!" Meanwhile, EDGUY will go on touring South America until October 16th, then continue their Worldwide Hellfire Tour in Greece, Russia, Germany and England afterwards.

BRIAN WILSON's Center Stage Once More
BRIAN WILSON
10.06.04 (AP) If BRIAN WILSON could change just one thing in life, it wouldn't be the legendary emotional traumas, the insecurities, the drug abuse, the battles with weight or the endless legal conflicts that nearly destroyed him. "I would have made the rhythm of 'California Girls' a little better," Wilson deadpans. "That," he adds with the slightest of smiles, "is my only regret." Were Wilson not shy and extremely modest by nature, he'd probably be wearing a bigger smile these days. The genius who was the guiding force behind THE BEACH BOYS - at a time when the group mattered to music as much as THE BEATLES - is back in all his creative glory. The proof is "Smile," a 47-minute rock opera in three movements that, when the composer first envisioned it in 1966, was to have been a "teenage symphony to God." BRIAN WILSON was 24 then. He's 62 now. Except for a slight paunch and the gray overtaking his wavy brown hair, Wilson's appearance has changed little from the gangly, cherub-faced youth who captivated the world with such songs as 'Surfin' Safari,' 'Little Deuce Coupe,' 'Surfer Girl,' 'Catch A Wave' and 'Fun Fun Fun.' Though much of the public may forever associate him with THE BEACH BOYS' three-minute odes to sand, girls and cars, Wilson grew to be one of Pop/Rock music's greatest composers. After THE BEATLES stunned the music world with the release of the elaborately produced "Rubber Soul" in 1965, Wilson one-upped them with "Pet Sounds." THE BEATLES, in... [full story]

ILLDISPOSED's '1-800 Vindication' Arrives
ILLDISPOSED
10.06.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Danish Metallers ILLDISPOSED have released their new album, entitled "1-800 Vindication" via Roadrunner Records in Europe. ILLDISPOSED mixed "1-800 Vindication" at Antfarm Studios in Aarhus, Denmark, with producer Tue Madsen at the helm. ILLDISPOSED are currently one of the biggest names in Danish extreme music. Since the beginning of the 90's, when they were a 100% underground band, ILLDISPOSED have made a name for themselves within the extreme music scene utilizing an uncompromising style. When ILLDISPOSED's debut album, "Four Depressive Seasons," was released in 1992, the band played pure Death Metal with an incredible brutality for the time. Today, the members of ILLDISPOSED have developed their own more commercial form of the genre by adding groovy rhythms, melodic but still hard-hitting riffs, technical and well-played guitar solos and an aggressive vocal in focus - developed through experience with production and pre-production of 7 albums, tours in and outside of Denmark, and a careful selection of new band members. ILLDISPOSED's 1997 album "There's Something Rotten In The State Of Denmark" sold so many copies that some within the music trade simply refused to believe the sales figures. Earlier this year, the band performed in the documentary "Headbang," a film about 3 Metal bands from Jutland, Denmark, which went on to win the International award for "Best Documentary" at the ITVA (International Television Association) festival in New Orleans.

JOHN LENNON's Killer Denied Parole Again
JOHN LENNON
10.06.04 (AP) JOHN LENNON's killer will remain in prison for at least two more years, after being denied parole once more Tuesday because of the "extreme malicious intent" he showed in gunning down the former Beatle in 1980. Mark David Chapman, now 49, was notified of the decision late Tuesday after appearing before a three-member panel earlier in the day. "During the interview your statement for motivation acknowledges the attention you felt this murder would generate," the board wrote in its single-page decision. "Although proven true, such rationale is bizarre and morally corrupt." It was Chapman's third bid for freedom. He was denied parole in 2000 and again in 2002, on what would have been JOHN LENNON's 62nd birthday. The latest denial "is based on the extreme malicious intent you exhibited (when) you fired a handgun multiple times, striking your victim - John Lennon," the board wrote. Chapman has been in prison more than 23 years for shooting Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment building as the musician returned from a recording session. He became eligible for release after serving 20 years of a maximum life sentence. Before Tuesday's hearing, a letter sent to the parole board on behalf of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, repeated her request that Chapman remain imprisoned. In 2000, Ono said she opposed Chapman's release out of concern for the safety of herself and her children. "I respect the board's decision," Ono said Tuesday night in a statement. For his own safety, Chapman lives in housing separate from the general population at the Attica Correctional Facility in New York. His next appearance before the parole board will be in October of 2006.

ENGORGED Wrap 'Where Monsters Dwell'
ENGORGED
10.06.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Razorback Records recording artist ENGORGED have announced they have completed work on their soon-to-be-released upcoming new album, which is entitled "Where Monsters Dwell." With an insane mix of the band's trademark Extreme Metal crossover style and crushing production courtesy of Mammoth Studios, plus amazing cover art plus a fold-out poster by none other than Dennis Dredd, "Where Monsters Dwell" will be unleashed upon the world by the fiends over at Razorback come October 31st on Halloween night. A 1,000 mega-ton atomic horror of aggressive Grind and Speed/Thrash metal, ENGORGED have been moshing and blasting their fans into a bloody and battered pulp since the band first debuted in 1997. They have also destroyed fans worldwide both live, and on their two previously released full-length albums, 1999's "Death Metal Attack 2" and 2001's "Engorged"). Like a killer brood of malformed feral children, ENGORGED have also managed to let loose several horrifying split releases over the years with the likes of Australian Grind maniacs FUCK...I'M DEAD, Oakland, California's IMPALED, and Spain's GRUESOME STUFF RELISH, the latter of which was recently released through Razorback. ENGORGED fans can also look forward to several more upcoming split releases with other bands, including Creepsylvania's GHOUL and Holland's FONDLECORPSE.

HELMET's 'Size Matters' Issued After Delay
HELMET
10.05.04 (RockAndMetal.com) "Size Matters," the long-awaited new album from Rock and Metal veterans HELMET, has finally been released via Interscope Records. Due to a broken collar bone injury sustained by band leader Page Hamilton while mountain biking, HELMET had been forced to revise the album's release date from it's original date of September 14th until today. Also affected were supporting tour dates for "Size Matters," which will now kick off October 20th in Vancouver, Canada at Richards On Richards - HELMET's first tour in seven years. For the tour, Hamilton will be joined by bandmates Chris Traynor (guitars), John Tempesta (drums) and Frank Bello (bass). Look for them to draw on songs from most of HELMET's previous albums, including "Strap It On," "Meantime," "Betty" and "Aftertaste," as well as from "Size Matters." Produced by Hamilton with assistance from producer Jay Baumgardner and former NINE INCH NAILS associate Charlie Clouser, the album built a critical buzz back in early Summer via positive reviews and nationwide airplay of the first single from the new album, 'See You Dead.' "The song is about a relationship that ended in a nasty way," says Hamilton, who adds that "the lyric was inspired by the line 'I'd rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man' from the Beatles song 'Run For Your Life' off the 'Rubber Soul' album." Two years ago, Hamilton -- vocalist... [full story]

VATICAN DC Sign New Deal With Red Flag
VATICAN DC
10.05.04 (RockAndMetal.com) UK recording label Red Flag Records has announced the signing of British band VATICAN DC, a new addition to a small but high quality label roster which includes bands such as THE VAULTS, FIERCE GIRL and FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN. Featuring Irish Stephen on vocals, Daniel Lindegren on rhythm guitar, Chris Gentry on lead guitar (of Kelly Osbourne/Menswear fame), Paul Jackson on bass and Tal Amiran on drums, VATICAN DC play Pop/Rock music that is upbeat, melodic and straight from the heart. Currently shacked up in their recording studio in North London, the band are busy creating the tracks for their debut single, 'Can't Say Nothing At All,' which is scheduled to be released on November 22nd as a limited-edition 7" vinyl issue. The single will also contain a 'cheeky sneaky B-side song' according to the band, which is entitled 'Nice Nice Friend.' Soon to be out on the road in the UK, VATICAN DC will also begin a nationwide tour in support of BLOC PARTY and CAMPEG VELOCET starting October 13th at Fleece & Firkin in Bristol. However, the crew will be one down as the band's label say it's all gone a bit "Spinal Tap" for VATICAN DC lately, as drummer Amiran unfortunately got run down by a car last week. He is currently recovering from a fractured spine, obviously from which will take him some time to recover.

TRAIL OF TEARS Will 'Free Fall Into Fear'
TRAIL OF TEARS
10.05.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Norwegian Gothic Metallers TRAIL OF TEARS have announced the title for their upcoming album, still not yet recorded or with an official release date, will be "Free Fall Into Fear." However, the band's recording label, Napalm Records, confirms the album will definitely be released by the end of 2004. TRAIL OF TEARS began life as NATT in 1994, but it wasn't until 1997 when the band experienced drastic line-up changes and the addition of a keyboard player, which prompted a change in musical style, that the name TRAIL OF TEARS was instituted. "When Silence Cries...," a 3-track demo, was recorded in March/April of 1997 at Jailhouse Studios. The demo prompted a flurry of contractual offers and in early 1998, the band eventually signing a two-album deal with Dutch label DSFA Records. The band entered Jailhouse Studios once again to record their debut, "Disclosure In Red, released in November of 1998. Heavy touring followed, including a European tour with TRISTANIA, THE SINS OF THY BELOVED, SIEBENBURGEN and ANTICHRISIS. However, conflicts with female vocalist Helena Iren Michaelsen ensued both on later tours and in the studio, forcing the band to bid her farewell following the completion of "Profoundemonium," after which Michaelsen went on to record with BLACK HORIZON and IMPERIA. TRAIL OF TEARS welcomed Michaelsen's replacement and current female vocalist, Cathrine Paulsen, in May of 2000.

THE CONCRETES' Debut Due For Canada
THE CONCRETES
10.04.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Swedish Experimental Pop/Rockers THE CONCRETES will release their self-titled debut album in the Canadian territories on October 19th via EMI UK Records. The release, currently available in the U.S. through Astralwerks Records, delivers some of the more exceptional sounds you've never heard - an ethereal, bittersweet and sparkly melange of haunting vocals, strings, glockenspiels, horns, tambourines and, yes, even drums. THE CONCRETES officially began over the Summer of 1995, with three girls (vocalist/guitarist Victoria Bergsman, guitarist Maria Eriksson and drummer Lisa Milberg) who held the belief that they could make great music contributions of their own. Inspired by Stockholm's most popular building material, they dubbed themselves "The Concretes." A host of successful EP's were produced from 1999-2002. By that time, the collective had sprawled to an incredible 8-piece band as essential components/musicians joined the ensemble. Soon afterwards, the band began work on their debut album with production and direction provided by Jari Haapalainen. On the debut, THE CONCRETES' trademark melancholy disposition finds wings a song like 'Warm Night,' and builds into a wall of sound on tracks like 'Say Something New,' the album's opener. THE CONCRETES are scheduled to play a limited amount of live dates in Canada as well as the U.S. beginning October 11th at Lee's Palace in Toronto, Ontario.

WALLS OF JERICHO Filming Video Today
ARCH ENEMY
10.04.04 (RockAndMetal.com) After making a "casting call" for extras on their record label's website Friday, Trustkill Records recording artists WALLS OF JERICHO will shoot a video for the song 'There's No I In Fuck You' at Chain Reaction in Los Angeles. WOJ guitarist Mike Hasty checked in yesterday with the following update: "Compton here we come! or i mean anaheim. Whatever. That's the same, right? Close enough for me. Either way we are leaving in the morning to head out to Orange County and rock out. Should be a good time. We know the basic theme and its not supposed to be funny I guess, but it makes me laugh every time i think or talk about it. Maybe thats a good sign. We will see. Well if you read these on any regular basis you know that we never update these things. im not sure exactly why, but the best reason I can come up with is that we aren't fun or cool, so nothing much really happens in our regular lives. And the band is pretty self explanatory. We play, we drive, we sleep, we fix our gear so we can play again. That's pretty much the idea. No reason to write that to you guys every day, so we don't. On a similar subject worthy of note, we just took an entire month off and it was amazing. I slept alot. I played some video games. I bought a motorcycle, but unfortunately we leave for tour so I dont get to ride it 'til Spring. But it's good enough just to know that I made the commitment. I'm also drinking a Coke right now. See how exciting we are? Woo hoo!" - Mike
