SHINEDOWN Tour To Support 'Us And Them'
SHINEDOWN
10.07.05 (RockAndMetal.com) "Us And Them," the new album from Rockers SHINEDOWN, has been released by Atlantic Records, which the band is currently supporting on a six-week tour with 3 DOORS DOWN and ALTER BRIDGE through November 13th, with several headlining shows scheduled in between on tour off-dates. "Us And Them" follows SHINEDOWN's 2003 platinum-certified debut, "Leave A Whisper." Produced by Tony Battaglia, the album sees the band pushing their taut, muscular Rock sound to its limits. Tracks like the anthemic 'Beyond The Sun' and the heavy rocking 'I Dare You' offer swelling hooks and potent melodies, fronted by Brent Smith's powerful vocals and provocative lyrical sensibility. The pulse-pounding 'Save Me' is already blowing up big on radio stations across the country. "On our first record, we didn't really know who we were," the singer explains. "We were just four individuals who came together, were in the studio for two years, and had never played together live. When we got in a room together, it was extremely powerful and extremely passionate. And when we did that on stage, we just became this... machine. We became the band we wanted to be." SHINEDOWN also became a band people wanted to hear, and Smith thinks he knows the reason: "I said this from day one: If I had to describe the band in one word, it would be honest. There's no sugarcoating anything. We deal with the issues in the songs head-on. We talk about the things we go through in life and we make them very up-front. We've tapped into something that's extremely unique, with the human spirit as a guide." In addition to the standard CD release of "Us And Them," a Deluxe Limited Edition version of the album, entitled "Beyond The Disc," has also been released. Tour Dates: 10/07 The Woodlands, TX [Cynthia Woods Pavilion] 10/11 Universal City, CA [Gibson Amphitheater] 10/12 San Diego, CA [House Of Blues] (headlining show) 10/14 Phoenix, AZ [Cricket Pavilion] 10/15 Las Vegas, NV [Aladdin Theater] 10/19 DeKalb, IL [Northern Illinois University Convocation] 10/20 Flint, MI [Machine Shop] (headlining show) 10/21 Evansville, IN [Roberts Stadium] 10/22 Louisville, KY [Louisville Gardens] 10/24 Cincinnati, OH [Riverbend Music Center] 10/26 Toledo, OH [Toledo Sports Arena] 10/27 University Park, PA [Bryce Jordan Center] 10/29 Youngstown, OH [Youngstown Convocation Center] 10/31 Savannah, GA [Savannah Civic Center] 11/03 Orlando, FL [TD Waterhouse Center] 11/04 Kansas City, MO [Voodoo Lounge] (headlining show) 11/06 Pikeville, KY [Eastern Kentucky Expo Center] 11/08 Chattanooga, TN [UTC McKenzie Arena] 11/09 Columbus, GA [Columbus Civic Center] 11/11 Memphis, TN [Mid South Coliseum] 11/12 Jackson, MS [Jackson Coliseum] 11/13 Baton Rouge, LA [Baton Rouge River Center]

THE OCEAN's 'Aeolian' Due From Metal Blade
THE OCEAN
10.07.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Metal Blade Records announced the signing of Berlin, Germany's THE OCEAN last month, who will release the band's next album, "Aeolian," at the end of November. A very unique band that features influences from various styles of hard and also more mellow music, THE OCEAN are well known for their Metal and Hardcore eruptions as well as their flowing soundscapes that are somewhat reminiscent of American pioneers NEUROSIS. But in the end they are simply THE OCEAN, a band that is well known in the German underground, not only for their albums, but also for their excessive live shows. Comments THE OCEAN's guitarist Robin Staps: "After talking to various labels over the course of the past months, we're happy to have joined forces with one of the most important labels for heavy music out there. Out of all the labels we talked to, Metal Blade seemed to be the most reasonable about what they could do for us and how they would go about doing it." Regarding "Aeolian," Staps had this to say: "All the instrumental and vocal tracks have been laid down, and we are almost finished with the mix. We have also taken a multiple-singer approach this time, with the aim of finding the perfect voice for every part. The result is a number of guest appearances, including Tomas Hallbom of Breach, Nate Newton of Converge/Old Man Gloom and Sean Ingram of Coalesce. Altogether, there are 6 singers featured on the album, covering the widest possible range of aggressive vocals - from deep howls to high-pitched shrieking, with our main man Meta at the low end and laptopist Nico at the high end of the vocal spectrum." "Aeolian" is the heavier twin of the 2004 release, "Fluxion. Both albums were recorded in one long session, which lasted from January of 2004 until July of 2005, in the band's own Oceanland studio. "Aeolian" was mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult Of Luna) at Tonteknik Studios in Umea, Sweden. While "Fluxion" mixed the orchestral and atmospheric side of its predecessor "Fogdiver" with harsh vocals and complex Metal passages, "Aeolian" develops that fusion even further. Resultingly, the orchestral parts have been relegated to the background, the songs are heavier and more complex, and the arrangements are totally uncompromising. On the new album, the band wanted to experiment how a reduction to the classic lineup of guitar/bass/drums/vocals would work within the context of THE OCEAN - the result being a dense, brutal album without unnecessary decorations, aiming straight for the throat. BREACH Vocalist Tomas Hallbom, who guests on five tracks on "Aeolian," also appeared on stage with the band at several live shows this past Spring, during which a few BREACH songs were covered. BREACH is one of THE OCEAN's main influences. Vocalist Sean Ingram of COALESCE also recorded the whole song 'Queen Of The Food-Chain,' who had the following to say about his participation: "if my rough takes at home are any indication, this will be my favorite guest appearance yet."

NEW YORK DOLLS' Kane Focus Of New Film
NEW YORK DOLL
10.06.05 (RockAndMetal.com) NEW YORK DOLLS founding bassist ARTHUR "KILLER" KANE is the subject of an upcoming new documentary surrounding the trajectory of his life after that massively influential band broke up, entitled "New York Doll." Currently slated for premiere October 28th in New York (New York City) and California (Los Angeles, Pasadena, Irvine), November 4th in Utah (Salt Lake City) and Arizona (Tempe), November 11th in Nevada (Las Vegas), Utah (Provo, Ogden, West Jordan, Sandy) and other parts of Arizona (Mesa, Peoria, Chandler), November 18th in Washington (Seattle) and Idaho (Boise), November 23rd in Texas (Dallas), November 25th in Illinois (Chicago) and December 2nd in other parts of Idaho (Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Chubbuck), click here for all the latest showings of the film. "New York Doll" looks at ARTHUR KANE's new fulfilling life as a librarian at a family history center and the reunion concert organized by Morrissey to bring Kane back to the stage for one last show with his former bandmates. A heartwarming story that will appeal to almost anyone, "New York Doll" is a film about one man and his dream. As an original member of the NEW YORK DOLLS, ARTHUR KANE belonged to a select group of musicians widely credited as the definitive proto-Glam-Punk ensemble. The band pioneered a look and sound that left the Rock scene of the 60s back in time, and helped pave the way for the Glam Rock and Punk look-a-likes who would follow in the next decade. Musical historians agree that the NEW YORK DOLLS directly influenced and inspired many of the most successful music acts of the last thirty years. After their short-lived success and almost predictable break-up, the next thirty years that were ARTHUR KANE's life reflected none of his former glory. As he puts it in the film, he was "demoted from rock star to schlep on the bus." The documentary portraying him in recent times, mild-mannered 55-year-old Arthur Kane endures Los Angeles' bewildering public transportation system each day to and from his job at the The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints Family History Center library. Though a tad frayed-at-the-edges, Kane is neatly dressed in a suit and tie. Thirty years later and a lifetime removed from his former alter ego, "Killer Kane" -- the one-time statuesque bassist -- blends effortlessly into his current environment, despite the fact that he's speaking to a camera crew who tags along with him on his daily routine. The New York Dolls' outrageous antics belied a ferocious sound that presaged Punk and influenced a generation of musicians. Establishing the raucous-rocker template, the band crashed and burned amidst a flurry of drug and alcohol abuse after their aptly-titled second LP, 1974's "Too Much Too Soon." The band broke up in 1975. Lead singer David Johansen would find new success as party-mad... [full story]

SLIPKNOT's Crahan Talks Of New Live Album
SLIPKNOT
10.06.05 (RockAndMetal.com) In SLIPKNOT news, percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan spoke to MTV recently about the band's forthcoming double live album: "Studio albums are cool because they span the tables of time and you can work on the music until you're ready to put it out - but when you play those songs live, they take on a whole different life," revealed Crahan. "Suddenly, it's of the moment and there's this raging human pulse that's full of anger, love, hate and pain, and you spit that out to people and they taste that album differently. While we're playing, we're dying under our masks and exploding with the adrenaline of achieving our goal, which is to be as completely uncomfortable as humanly possible for our art," Crahan said. "We're slamming our heads and screaming at each other. There's real pain there. For me, it's the pain of mortality and the pain of being away from my wife and her being ill. And when the show ends, we look at each other's eyes, and we know we've pushed ourselves as far as we can at that point on that day in this life of ours." To make sure the songs on the upcoming album, entitled "9.0 - Live" were as tight as possible, SLIPKNOT recorded dozens of shows over the past year from their tours for "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses." Then they listened back to the hundreds of hours of tape to locate the best performances, which were strung together with very few overdubs. While recording so many shows made it easier to find performances that were up to the band's standards, having every riff and beat recorded gave the musicians extra incentive not to screw up. It's a lesson they learned back in 2002 when they were recording shows for their "Disasterpieces" DVD. "When we got the audio back from 'Disasterpieces,' we realized we all gave a really, really good performance in part because we knew we were being taped," Crahan said. "And we knew then that there was a lot of potential for a live album, so we decided to tape lots of shows and make sure we were on point the whole time. We are very anal-retentive when it comes to playing anyways, so we are very hard on ourselves and no one comes up half-assed or they get beaten down. But when you've got a microphone hanging onto your every note, you tend to give maybe 115 percent instead of 110 percent." The visceral quality of the recordings SLIPKNOT sifted through for "9.0: Live" brought back many painful memories: bassist Paul Grey collapsing from exhaustion, percussionist Chris Fehn jumping the wrong way and tearing a ligament in his knee, and Crahan grappling with DJ Sid Wilson 10 feet off the ground and taking a dive headfirst into the concrete. Meanwhile, back in the safety of his home in Des Moines, Iowa, Crahan is currently working on a video for the "9.0: Live" recording of 'The Nameless,' which he will direct, using a combination of live shots and backstage footage. Around the same time the clip is distributed to video outlets, the version of the song that's on "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses" will be sent to Metal radio as SLIPKNOT's next single.

JOHN FOGERTY Career Retrospective's Due
JOHN FOGERTY
10.05.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Fantasy Records is set to release the first-ever career retrospective of JOHN FOGERTY on November 1st, entitled "The Long Road Home: The Ultimate John Fogerty/Creedence Collection." After more than three decades Fogerty, one of the most important and influential songwriters in modern times, has returned to Fantasy Records. Fogerty's infamous relationship with the label, now part of the Concord Music Group, led him to suffer through years of bitter disputes and lawsuits, making this announcement perhaps one of the most unlikely and unexpected reunions in music industry history. As lead singer and songwriter for the immensely influential CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, JOHN FOGERTY scored nine Top 10 singles from 1969-72 (the band even out-sold THE BEATLES in 1969), released a slew of seminal hits that would become great American anthems synonymous with a generation, including 'Fortunate Son,' 'Proud Mary,' 'Bad Moon Rising,' 'Born On The Bayou,' and 'Who'll Stop the Rain.' Fogerty's chart-topping solo recordings have also sold millions of copies worldwide, while his live performances have always received high acclaim for their energy and sincerity. JOHN FOGERTY has been inducted into both The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. "The Long Road Home: The Ultimate John Fogerty/Creedence Collection," an aptly titled disc that honors the icon's musical journey from his early career to today features, for the first time ever, all of the songwriter's most poignant and enduring hits. Included are seminal tracks from the CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL catalog, along with some of the best of his solo work, including 'Centerfield,' 'Deja Vu (All Over Again),' and 'Hot Rod Heart' from the Grammy Award winning album "Blue Moon Swamp." Also on the disc are four new tracks recorded live by JOHN FOGERTY during his 2005 tour of the United States: 'Hey Tonight,' 'Bootleg,' 'Keep On Chooglin',' and a blistering rendition of CCR's 'Fortunate Son.' The Concord Music Group and Fantasy have great admiration for Fogerty's extraordinary talents and have embraced their relationship with him - working on several new releases including a live DVD taped this past September 15th at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles for an early 2006 release. Other projects are presently in the early stages of development. "I'm very happy to be back in touch with a part of myself," says JOHN FOGERTY of the return home to Fantasy Records. "It's surreal. For 35 years, I never thought I'd be reunited with the music I wrote during the Creedence Clearwater Revival years. I'm happy to say that the new Fantasy is very enthusiastic about my body of work, and all the people there have been delightful. They are honoring my songs that hold an important place in the history of American music. And, they are honoring me."

Our bands fit perfectly together, and this is a great chance for us to take it around the entire country." THE MAGIC NUMBERS Make Stateside Debut
THE MAGIC NUMBERS
10.04.05 (RockAndMetal.com) THE MAGIC NUMBERS' self-titled debut album see its release in the United States today, and the group are already off to a nice start with a Mercury Prize nomination, Platinum certification in the UK, an NME cover story, and a spot in Rolling Stone's recent "10 Artists To Watch" feature, which described the album as "Two sets of siblings, one set of killer power pop tunes." Now comes news that THE MAGIC NUMBERS will open 12 shows on BRIGHT EYES' upcoming North American tour, and that they'll make their U.S. television debut on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on November 30th. The band will also headline a series of U.S. club dates at the end of this month. The catchy sound of THE MAGIC NUMBERS revolves around the talented songwriting and of vocalist/guitarist Romeo Stodart. Born and raised in Trinidad (where his mother had her own Opera show on TV), the family moved to New York when he was teenager and later moved again to Ealing in London. There he met drummer Sean Gannon and started making music. Consequently, these days the two can be found sitting in the soundproofed front room of the family's terraced house surrounded by instruments, prolifically penning songs still yet to be recorded by the band. To complete the core band line-up, they added Stodart's equally talented sister Michele on bass and vocals, while Gannon's sister Angela takes care of percussion, melodica and third vocals. Drawing inspiration from many sources including singer/songwriters, 60's harmony groups, Epic Rock and individual mavericks such as David Axelrod, THE MAGIC NUMBERS have crafted a sound which comes from everywhere, yet is uniquely theirs. Since their Fall 2003 club debut, they've opened for the likes of U2, SAINT ETIENNE, TRAVIS, DOVES, and numerous other artists. Tour Dates: 10/30 Las Vegas, NV [Sam Boyd Stadium - Vegoose Festival] 11/01 West Hollywood, CA [Troubadour] 11/03 San Francisco, CA [Popscene @ 330 Ritch] 11/05 Portland, OR [Doug Fir Lounge] 11/06 Vancouver, BC [Richard's On Richards Cabaret] 11/07 Seattle, WA [Crocodile Cafe] 11/11 Minneapolis, MN [Ascot Room @ The Quest] 11/12 Chicago, IL [Schubas Tavern] 11/14 Nashville, TN [Ryman Auditorium] 11/15 Louisville, KY [W.L. ADEMA Relays Latest Update From The Road
ADEMA
10.04.05 (RockAndMetal.com) ADEMA have been on the road for about a month now, and their recording label Earache Records decided to check up on the band to see how they were doing. Drummer Kris Kohls was asked a few questions to see how things were going on the road along with how ADEMA got connected with the motion picture "Cry_Wolf": Regarding how the tour hass been going, Kohls said: "The tour is going well. We have been on the road since March, and are booked up until Christmas time. We went to Iraq at the beginning of the year, and are wrapping up the end of the year in Europe. We started with Brides Of Destruction September 28th, and that will take us into november. The shows just keep getting better and better. The songs off of 'Planets' go over very well live, and the energy between the band is unstoppable." Regarding new vocalist Luke Carracioli and how he has changed ADEMA's tour experience, Kohls commented: "Luke can definitely sing. His voice is consistent every night and he delivers the goods. Touring is always fun when the shows rock. He definitely rocks it live." Regarding any noticeable difference between East Coast shows and West Coast shows, Kohls said: "East coast, west coast, if the crowd has energy and the band connects with that energy the show is gonna be off the hook no matter what coast. We are closer to home on the west coast, but the people at our shows make us feel at home on the east coast as well. Its all about rocking the show." Regarding the song 'Planets' being picked for the first single off the "Cry_Wolf" movie soundtrack, Kohls added: "Our manager Kevin sent Eric at Lakeshore a copy of the song. The song was written over a year ago, and its crazy that it worked so well with the movie. Sometimes things just line up right. We saw the video, and that has clips of the movie in it. It is an honor to have our music involved with 'Cry_Wolf.'" Regarding the shooting of the video, Kohls said: "Making the video for 'Cry_Wolf' was actually the most painless video we have ever made. The last few were filmed over a couple days, and we had to hurry up and wait around alot. This one we flew in the night before, and filmed from about 8 to 6 the next day at Griffith Observatory in the woods there. The director and crew were extremely professional and the way they blended footage of us playing in the woods that day with clips of the movie was done really nicely." Regarding helping survivors of Hurricane Katrina, Kohls added: "I do know some people who are now staying in California for the time being. And I know people who have went over to help out with their time and money. It's times like these when people really need to pull together. It is a tragic thing that happened, and only time will make things better." Regarding what music the members of ADEMA are listening to these days, he said: "We have been listening to Van Halen, The Cure, Metallica, Motley Crue, and Guns N' Roses. Tim (Fluckey) likes to sing to Lynyrd Skynyrd."

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN 'Born To Run' Box Due
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
10.03.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Columbia Records is set to release the BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "Born To Run 30th Anniversary Edition" box set on November 15th. Personally supervised by Springsteen and long-time manager Jon Landau, the box set includes "Hammersmith Odeon, London '75," an astonishing film of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND's legendary 1975 concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, the new film "Wings For Wheels: The Making of Born To Run," the classic album in remastered CD form and a 48-page booklet of previously unpublished photographs. With its two DVDs, the package offers approximately four hours of previously unseen footage. "I believe that the combination of the great 1975 concert footage, the brilliant documentary of the making of the album and the dazzling remastering of 'Born to Run' add up to a nearly perfect storm of Bruce's music," says Jon Landau. Spanning roughly two hours and ten minutes, the November 18, 1975 concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon finds an epic performance of sixteen BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND classics, including 'Thunder Road,' 'Tenth Avenue Freeze Out,' 'Jungleland,' and 'Born To Run,' as well as such other favorites such as 'Kitty's Back' and 'Rosalita.' The multiple-camera film of the complete concert is in its entirety and its original sequence, as newly edited by Emmy award winner Thom Zimny. Zimny's production team painstakingly cleaned the original negatives and digitally restored the footage, ultimately presenting this indispensable concert in vibrant color and detail. Producer Bob Clearmountain then remastered and remixed the DVD in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Zimny has worked with Springsteen on several projects, including editing the Emmy-winning "Live In New York," the quadruple-platinum certified, Emmy-nominated "Live In Barcelona" and the "VH1 Storytellers" films. Clearmountain has also often collaborated with BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN over the last twenty- five years, most notably on 'Born In The USA.' "Wings For Wheels: The Making Of Born To Run" chronicles the definitive story of the creation of 'Born To Run,' boasting archival film never shown publicly, including substantial footage of of the recording of the album and other footage shot between 1973 and 1975. In addition, "Wings For Wheels" incorporates newly filmed interviews, including several with former members who played on the album, as well as the production team. "Wings For Wheels: The Making Of Born To Run" ends with stunning bonus footage of three songs recorded live at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater in 1973: 'Spirit In The Night,' 'Wild Billy's Circus Story' and 'Thundercrack.' "Born To Run" has sold nearly nine million units worldwide, and is often recognized by many international polls as one of the greatest Rock 'N' Roll albums of all time. Of "Born To Run," which was originally released on August 25th, 1975, Rolling Stone wrote: "It is a magnificent album that pays off on every bet ever placed on him, and it should crack his future wide open."
