FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN Keeping Busy
FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN
10.01.04 (RockAndMetal.com) There is a new album on the way from FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN, due for release in early 2005 via Red Flag Records. At the moment, it looks like the band will commence recording in December, with the first single from the album due out in Spring of 2005. A producer has not been decided upon yet, though there are some interesting names in the hat already. FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN will also be out on tour in November with dates just being finalized, but the band are definitely taking to the road in mid-November for a run around Ireland, before heading to the UK for a short run of live dates there. The upcoming shows will see the band thrash out a healthy mix of tunes from their first album plus a shed-load of new material, before they hit the studio to commit it to tape. It also looks like a return to Japan is on the cards sometime in the New Year, too. Since the release of FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN's debut album there, it has sold in excess of 20,000 copies to date. FKOS band members also have a side project in the making. When they get a minute off FKOS, vocalist/guitarist Joey Wilson, bassist Tony Hegarty and drummer Bryan McMahon form three fifths of the band ALAZARUSSOUL. Right now, they are in the middle of recording their parts for a new album from that outfit, which looks to be a scorcher. Release dates are sketchy thus far, but keep an eye out for details.

ARCH ENEMY Will Issue 'Dead Eyes' EP
ARCH ENEMY
10.01.04 (RockAndMetal.com) As ARCH ENEMY continue their worldwide rebellion this Fall on MTV2's Headbangers Ball Tour, the Swedish group will release their new "Dead Eyes See No Future" EP in the U.S. on November 2nd, just prior to the start of the latter tour. ARCH ENEMY guitarist Mike Amott further describes the band's excitement over the new EP: "The decision to make this EP started to come about after we played a particularly intense, sold-out show at the Elysee Montmartre in Paris this past April, which we were taping. Most of the recording came out sounding great, so we thought we should give you guys the chance to own a slice of prime live Enemy, especially for all the people who haven't seen us play yet! The inimitable Andy Sneap was on hand to do the actual live recording, and he also mixed the whole thing at his studio (where we did all the sessions for "Anthems..."). The cover songs - we had a real blast working out our take on some classic tunes... Being a huge fan of Megadeth, I must admit it's a tough task to better their original version of 'Symphony Of Destruction' - we just did a very, very heavy version of the song. The Manowar track 'Kill With Power' turned out unexpectedly brutal also -- this was always a favorite song of mine from my early "heavy metal daze"! I love the speed and intensity of the song - it sounds very ARCH ENEMY! So it actually turned into something good to let you guys get your teeth into, so enjoy!"

COURTNEY LOVE's Finances Get Worse
COURTNEY LOVE
10.01.04 (Reuters) COURTNEY LOVE's trial on drug possession charges was postponed on Thursday, but her financial woes mounted as creditors on both coasts pressed court claims that the singer-actress was dodging unpaid bills. A Beverly Hills judge postponed Love's trial until November 3rd because of scheduling issues, Los Angeles prosecutors said. Love's legal woes, as well as a brief involuntary stay at Bellevue Hospital this Summer, forced her to scrub her Summer concert tour to promote her first solo album. She also has been dogged by financial problems she claims were caused by former advisors who cheated her out of millions. On Thursday, a California travel agency served her with a lawsuit accusing her of failing to pay $50,000 in travel-related expenses. Love also has been slapped with liens by her New York condo board for unpaid charges on her luxury Soho apartment, and by Los Angeles County for $37,477.09 in unemployment insurance taxes on her personal employees. Love's lawyer, Scott Tulman, said he was not aware of his client's tax or lien woes but did file a 14-page motion in New York State Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking dismissal of assault and reckless endangerment charges stemming from charges alleging she threw a microphone stand that hit a New York nightclub patron. Her spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.

BILLY TALBOT Is 'Alive In The Spirit World'
BILLY TALBOT
09.30.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Those familiar with the rock-solid bass lines and sweet harmonies of CRAZY HORSE will appreciate the eclectic and powerful songs that make up BILLY TALBOT's first solo effort, "Alive In The Spirit World," which will be released by Sanctuary Records on October 5th. The live and studio recordings, which range from the psychedelic powerhouse 'Security Girl' to the ethereal soundscapes of 'Rainy Days' and 'Painting Of A Man' were recorded in a barn in Mendocino, California. Long-time CRAZY HORSE bassist/vocalist BILLY TALBOT and his band developed their sound together through a number of rehearsals and live performances, including stripped down vocal sessions reminiscent of Talbot's early band, THE ROCKETS. Listeners will enjoy the sonic blends of three unique guitarists as Matt Piucci, Tommy Carns and Erik Pearson exchange searing, haunting and passionate improvisations over Talbot's well-crafted song structures. "Alive In The Spirit World" also reflects BILLY TALBOT's discerning ear, as he and the band draw on the classic sounds of an assortment of vintage music gear, including various keyboards and other instruments, the result being a timeless blend of electric and acoustic Americana. As a bonus, the enhanced CD gives the viewer an opportunity to pull up a hay bale into a redwood barn to see Talbot leading the band, along with his steel-string acoustic guitar... [full story]

DAMNED NATION Finally Complete Album
DAMNED NATION
09.30.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Swedish Heavy Metallers DAMNED NATION have finished the recording of their upcoming new album, "Sign Of Madness, the fourth of their career. The new effort took nearly a year and a half to complete, due to many studio problems and difficulties the band was experiencing, but it appears the album will be released by Scarlet Records sometime in mid-November. Produced by Tomas Skogsberg, "Sign Of Madness" reveals a modern and raw approach by the band, yet still links up well to the older, more traditional DAMNED NATION melodies of old. Superb vocals are performed by Matti Alfonzetti, a top notch singer already known for his solo projects and for being one of the most talented guests in various bands. DAMNED NATION was started back in 1993 when guitarist Robert Warnqvist, bassist Magnus Jonsson and drummer Leif Erixon were seeking a new vocalist for the band, then called EASY STREET. And with a recording deal waiting to be signed with UFO Records, they needed a good singer fast. After eight months of looking around in Sweden they enlisted former POWERHOUSE singer Thomas Thorsen for the job. After just listening to his demotape the band was all fired up about this singer. In early 1994, the band started writing and rehearsing songs with Thorsen for their 1995 debut album. Before completion of the album, they changed their name to DAMNED NATION.

MICK FLEETWOOD BAND Debut Available
THE MICK FLEETWOOD BAND
09.29.04 (RockAndMetal.com) THE MICK FLEETWOOD BAND, featuring co-founder and drummer Mick Fleetwood of FLEETWOOD MAC, have released their debut album, "Something Big, via Fleetwood's TallMan Records in conjunction with Sanctuary Records. The album is a collaborative effort with singer/songwriter/guitarist Todd Smallwood and vocalist Lauren Evans. Along with several special guests, "Something Big" sees Mick Fleetwood reunite with one-time FLEETWOOD MAC guitarist/singer Jeremy Spencer for the first time in more than three decades. Regarding the start of THE MICK FLEETWOOD BAND, he says: "It's basically what I've been doing with Fleetwood Mac for 35 years -- discovering artists that I enjoy playing with. I'm hoping it will be a morphing, creative entity, with the key elements being myself and Todd." Speaking of Evans, Fleetwood says: "She's the first example of the sort of elements that we can bring into the band; she's unknown but really talented." Fleetwood says the album (his third solo project) "feels like an old friend," with its laid-back grooves and down-to-earth songs penned by Smallwood like 'Where The Wind Blows,' 'Walking With The Angels' and 'No Borders,' while Fleetwood co-wrote the track 'Passion' for the new album. "We met through sound engineer Dennis Mays, and we started hanging out at his studio. So it grew out of having fun, and Todd had so many songs that I was becoming familiar with."

NAPALM DEATH's Greenway Does Update
NAPALM DEATH
09.29.04 (RockAndMetal.com) NAPALM DEATH vocalist Barney Greenway has sent the following message to the band's fans: "We are currently in Foel Studios in Mid Wales (the middle of nowhere), which is actually owned by Dave Anderson who was the original bass player for Hawkwind (before Lemmy even), which rocks, of course. Everything is working out really well, and we have tried a few different methods of working here, which have really helped my voice. I am using the microphone as I would live, which helps to really get the full roar going. Guitars are sounding heavy as anything, and as we have given ourselves just about the right time in the studio- as per usual - it helps to keep us on our toes so everything sounds pretty vital. Shane is doing his usual tractor impressions with the bass, which is nice. We're currently at a race to the finish, so everything is starting to shape up properly with the only distraction being the mist that hangs over the valley most mornings...and the sheep! A few titles for you as we chalk 'em off...'Instruments Of Persuasion,' 'Morale,' 'Striding Purposefully Backwards,' 'Climate Controllers,' 'Sold Short,' plus of course the title track 'The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code.' More later. Cheers." NAPALM DEATH will be releasing their new album, "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2," come October 5th, then they will hit the road later next month with CANNIBAL CORPSE, KATAKLYSM and GOATWHORE.

MEGADETH's Mustaine Ready For U.S. Tour
MEGADETH
09.28.04 (RockAndMetal.com) With 'Die Dead Enough,' the first single from their new album "The System Has Failed" impacting the airwaves, MEGADETH have announced plans for a U.S. tour, dubbed the "Blackmail The Universe Tour," slated to begin the third week of October. Joining group founder and frontman Dave Mustaine on the 22-date trek will be Glen Drover of KING DIAMOND/EIDOLON on guitar, James MacDonough from ICED EARTH on bass and Nick Menza returning on drums. The video for 'Die Dead Enough' also made its debut on MTV's "Headbangers Ball" recently, with the song still spinning on Active Rock and Metal radio nationwide. Of his touring partners for the "Blackmail The Universe Tour," Dave Mustaine says: "James is a guy with long hair and a lot of tattoos and is an animal on bass. We like that kind of danger on that side of the stage." As for Drover, Mustaine calls him the "perfect fit," and welcomes back Menza, who was in the group from 1990 through 1997. After re-releasing eight MEGADETH albums earlier this past Summer, Revolver has described "The System Has Failed" in a four-star review (October '04) as "Megadeth's most vengeful, poignant and musically complex offering since 1992's Countdown To Extinction... Throw in political themes, apocalyptic lyrics...it's clear that Megadeth are not just back, they're paranoid, pissed, and motivated to destroy."

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT's 'Want Two' Set Due
RUFUS WAINWRIGHT
09.28.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Singer/songwriter RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is set to release "Want Two," his new DreamWorks/Geffen Records CD, the fourth of his career. The package also includes an extensive 20-track DVD feature. "Want Two" is scheduled to be issued November 16th. The 12-track CD comes on the heels of Wainwright's "Want One," released in 2003. The new album continues the themes explored on the previous recording, though Wainwright says "Want Two" contains "the more daunting tracks, the operatic, weird stuff, some heavy numbers that relate to my classical sensibilities." The new CD was largely recorded during the same sessions as the first, and features the same creative team Wainwright used for "Want One." The "Want Two" DVD includes performances filmed at a live concert at San Francisco's historic Fillmore Auditorium, and includes songs from both "Want One" and "Want Two," among them 'I Don't Know What It Is,' 'Dinner At Eight,' 'Go Or Go Ahead,' and 'Oh What A World.' The son of two well known popular music figures Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT burst upon the music scene with his self-titled 1998 debut, which was followed by "Poses" in 2001. Wainwright will make his acting debut soon in the new Martin Scorsese film, "The Aviator."

DIECAST Finished Shooting 'Medieval' Video
DIECAST
09.28.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Boston Metalcore merchants DIECAST have finished the video for their song 'Medieval' with director Dale Resteghini (Fear Factory, Hatebreed). The track comes off of the band's upcoming album, "Tearing Down Your Blue Skies," set for an October 19th release. DIECAST bassist Jeremy Wooden checked in with the following update; "DIECAST just had a very busy weekend. First I'd like to thank Mike Hsu and WAAF for the interview on Harder Faster on Thursday night. On Friday, we shot our first video for our single "Medieval". I'd like to thank Scott Lee for being so cooperative and allowing us to use Fat Cat's if we had needed it. At the last minute we were able to end up shooting the video at Fort Revere in Hull, which was amazing. We were expecting a few cameras and a couple of people for the video. What we got were 4 box trucks full of equipment and a 15 person video crew. Dale and his crew were some of the best people we've ever met. We had camera's on mini railroad tracks, lighting, fog machines, guns, hookers and fire-trucks. For a minute I thought I was playing bass for Britney Spears....it was awesome. I'd like to thank all of our friends we haven't seen in a long time for coming out to be in the video. We even had a surprise guest appearance by the almighty hoods in the video."

PHIL SPECTOR Is Indicted For Murder In L.A.
PHIL SPECTOR
09.27.04 (AP) Legendary music producer PHIL SPECTOR has been charged with murder in an indictment unsealed today regarding the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson at his California mansion last year. Spector, 64, leaned on the arm of his attorney as the indictment in the slaying of the 40-year-old Clarkson was read, but showed no emotion. Outside court, he railed at prosecutors, comparing District Attorney Steve Cooley to Adolf Hitler. "The actions of the Hitler-like DA and his stormtrooper henchmen are reprehensible, unconscionable and despicable," said Spector, who remains free on $1 million bail. He spoke only briefly in court, answering "Yes, your honor" to Judge David S. Wesley's questions. Wesley set December 16th as the earliest possible trial date. Prosecutors avoided a preliminary hearing by taking the case directly to a grand jury, which returned the indictments. District attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said that was done in part to avoid any further delay in bringing Spector to trial for the February 3rd, 2003 shooting. "It's been almost two years since Ms. Clarkson was killed in Mr. Spector's home and it's time for a trial," she said. "We believe there is a crime. We charged a crime. And that crime is murder. Nothing is politically motivated in this case." Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. PHIL SPECTOR could receive a life sentence with the possibility of parole if convicted.

THORNLEY Back In The U.S. For A New Tour
THORNLEY
09.27.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Canadian Nu Metallers THORNLEY are currently back in the United States for an upcoming tour. In fact, as this was written, the band was driving through West Virginia - having been on the bus for about 30 hours straight at this point. THORNLEY are now en route to Atlanta, where this coming tour run with BREAKING BENJAMIN begins tomorrow night. Before embarking on their present trip, the band was on a plane almost every day last week while touring their native Canada. A show in St. John's, Newfoundland with THREE DAYS GRACE and BILLY TALENT was the last stop. "All non newfies got Screeched in at Trapper John's," tells THORNLEY bassist Worm. "For many of us that was the last thing we remembered. For others who had a bit more alcohol tolerance, we partied into the small - but getting larger - hours of the morning. On Sunday we had a 5am lobby call. Most of us were not concerned with getting up for it but more so worried about being back at the hotel in time. In Newfoundland, the bars never really close. Newfoundland, the province that never sleeps." In other THORNLEY news, there is a cold circulating among the band and crew...Worm hung with old friends in Newfoundland (it's his hometown)...the band all has a new hate on for flying...and they also have a new bus and a new bus driver.
