THE BEATLES' 'Rubber Soul' Paid Tribute To
THE BEATLES
09.30.05 (RockAndMetal.com) In honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of THE BEATLES' classic album, "Rubber Soul," Razor & Tie Records is proud to announce "This Bird Has Flown - A 40th Anniversary Tribute To The Beatles' Rubber Soul." The 14-track album hits stores on October 25th, and will mirror the sequencing of the original UK release of "Rubber Soul." The new tribute features some of today's hottest artists including Sufjan Stevens, Ben Harper, Dar Williams, Mindy Smith, THE DONNAS, THE FIERY FURNACES, and more. Of the importance of "Rubber Soul," guitarist Allison Robertson of THE DONNAS commented: "They got a little more folky, they got a little more funky and more rocking. It was so different - it was like heavy and light at the same time." "This Bird Has Flown" has been produced by Jim Sampas (producer of 2002's "Badlands: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska"). On choosing the line-up of artists on the record, Sampas stated: "As we looked toward artists we would approach, we felt they should be kindred spirits whose gifts for singing and arranging lend themselves to these melodies and themes. Each artist on this album brought their own fascinating interpretations and have extracted new meanings from 'Rubber Soul.'" Originally released in the United Kingdom on December 6th, 1965, the George Martin-produced "Rubber Soul" is considered to be an extraordinarily important album in THE BEATLES' catalogue, the first flowering of the complex songwriting and production techniques of their later releases. The album features the now-ubiquitous songs 'Nowhere Man,' 'Drive My Car,' 'Michelle,' and 'In My Life,' among others. It held the #1 position on the British album charts for eight weeks, and remained on the chart for a total of forty-two weeks. In 1966, 'Michelle' won John Lennon and Paul McCartney the Grammy award for "Song Of The Year." To date, "Rubber Soul" has been certified sextuple platinum. "This Bird Has Flown - A 40th Anniversary Tribute To The Beatles' Rubber Soul" Track Listing: 1. Drive My Car - The Donnas 2. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - The Fiery Furnaces 3. SECRET SPHERE Announce A New Drummer
SECRET SPHERE
09.30.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Italian Melodic Metallers SECRET SPHERE have announced the addition of drummer Federico Pennazzato into the group's ranks. "Federico is a young and brilliant drummer coming from our city, so after more than three months of collaboration and some gigs we are happy to confirm that he is the right man to sit behind the kit!" the band have posted on their official website. "We wish all the best to Daniel Flores from the bottom of our hearts, we still consider him as a member of the family and a great friends, but sometimes the distance is difficult to manage! Thanks dude!" SECRET SPHERE will be supporting ROYAL HUNT on a 10-date European tour beginning next week. All the dates, with the exception of the shows in Italy, will also feature the Italian band RAINTIME. After the European tour, SECRET SPHERE will be concentrating on an Italian tour that is currently being arranged with the collaboration with their management, Intromental, and Italian booking agency Alkemist Fanatix Europe. The band have also been confirmed for the first ProgPower UK festival on March 25th, 2006 at The Centaur in Cheltenham with THERION, FIREWIND and FREEDOM CALL, among others. SECRET SPHERE's latest album, "Heart & Anger," was released in May via Nuclear Blast Records. The music that the band play takes inspiration from Hard Rock, Heavy Power Metal and Classical music, while their lyrics relate a fantasy atmosphere mixed with real life moments. In July of 1997, the first lineup of SECRET SPHERE featured Aldo Lonobile (guitar), Andrea Buratto (bass), Cristiano Scagliotti (drums), Gianmaria Saggi (guitar), and Ramon (vocals). After many changes, the band found stability in December of 1997 with two new members: Antonio Agate (keyboards) and Paco Gianotti (guitar). In September of 1998, SECRET SPHERE recorded their first demo, "Between Story And Legend," after which Cristiano Scagliotti left the band to be replaced by Luca Cartasegna. Meanwhile, the demo was very well reviewed (voted top demo in Metal Hammer), which caught the attention of Elevate Records. In June of 1999, SECRET SPHERE record their first full length album, "Mistress Of The Shadowlight," at Luigi Stefanini's New Sin Studios (Labyrinth, Eldrich, Domine, White Skull). Their sound is passionate, symphonic and bombastic, with the choruses on "Mistress Of The Shadowlight" being sung by members of the bands WHITE SKULL and BLACK JESTER. The following year, SECRET SPHERE record a new album in "A Time Nevercome," the sound quality being both better and more energetic than on their first. In March of 2001, "A Time Nevercome" sees it's release, after which the band play several concerts and festivals in Europe while at the same time concentrating on creating some new material. 2002 sees SECRET SPHERE shopping two demos, which results in the band being signed to a recording deal with Nuclear Blast, who release "The Scent Of Human Desire" in 2003.

THE BAND's 'Musical History' Collection Here
THE BAND
09.29.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Executive-produced by founding member Robbie Robertson, THE BAND's new career-spanning box set, "A Musical History" -- the most comprehensive collection ever created for the group -- has been released. Packaged within a 108-page hardcover book brimming with previously unseen photos and memorabilia are five CDs and one DVD documenting THE BAND's entire recording career from 1963 to 1976. Among the set's 111 audio and video tracks are 37 previously unreleased recordings and filmed clips captured live and in-studio. Issued by Capitol/EMI Music Catalog Marketing, this definitive collection features a cover painting of THE BAND by world-renowned artist Ed Ruscha and extensive biographical liner notes by the Grammy-winning writer Rob Bowman. In-demand production partners Cheryl Pawelski and Andrew Sandoval, who also teamed for the in-depth restoration of THE BAND's original Capitol albums in 2000 and 2001, joined Robertson on the project. "This is by far the most comprehensive, in-depth, and beautifully put together collection of THE BAND's musical journey," says THE BAND's Robbie Robertson. Among "A Musical History"'s previously unreleased audio tracks are live and studio recordings THE BAND created with Bob Dylan and Ronnie Hawkins, as well as various song sketches, while the DVD's nine film clips include rare and previously unreleased concert performances, a filmed studio jam, and three songs THE BAND performed on television "Saturday Night Live" in 1976 which have never before been issued in their entirety. "A Musical History"'s release concludes a comprehensive restoration campaign for THE BAND's entire Capitol Records catalog. By the late 1960s, THE BAND was one of the most popular and influential Rock groups in the world, and the group's members shared an extensive collaborative history dating back to the late 1950s and early '60s. Between 1958 and 1962, the then-teenaged multi-instrumentalists Levon Helm (drums, vocals), Robertson (guitar, piano, vocals), Rick Danko (bass, vocals), Richard Manuel (keyboards, vocals, drums) and Garth Hudson (keyboards, horns) first performed and recorded together as members of the backing band for Ronnie Hawkins called THE HAWKS. In late 1963, THE HAWKS struck out on their own and became LEVON & THE HAWKS, playing and recording under that name in 1964 and 1965. In 1965, Robertson met with Bob Dylan in New York, just as Dylan was seeking an electric guitarist for his touring band. The Band was born, with all of the former members of THE HAWKS backing Bob Dylan on the road from October 1965 through 1966 as he incensed audiences in the U.S., Australia and Europe, performing electric sets. Disheartened by the vocally disdainful "folkie purist" audience response to their first plugged-in performances with Dylan, Helm left THE BAND in November of 1965. After the 1966 tour concluded, THE BAND woodshedded for the next year in upstate New York, often in the company of Bob Dylan, forging a highly original sound that in one... [full story]

ANTIGAMA's 'Zeroland' Due On Selfmadegod
ANTIGAMA
09.29.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Polish quartet ANTIGAMA are set take another creative step forward with their third full-length album, "Zeroland," on November 1st via Selfmadegod Records. Delivering a diverse combination of various aggressive music styles, the nine-song album by the Warsaw powerhouse reveals an immeasurable number of speed blasts, disharmonic Grind and Experimental Noise - the release adding a most intricate, dynamic and innovative sound to the hybrid of genres. Manic drumming, heavy distorted guitars, haunting vocals and shrieks are all inarguable trademarks of the band, who continue to create complex and twisted music. Formed in late 2002 by guitarist Sebastian Rokicki (Different State, Garden Of Worm) and drummer Krzysztof Bentkowski (Sparagmos, Damnable, Monev), ANTIGAMA are simply unrestricted by anything, and are one of the pioneers of modern Avant-Garde Grindcore and forward-thinking Metal. After the addition of vocalist Lukasz Myszkowski (Sparagmos, In) and bassist Macio Moretti (Starzy Singers, Maly Szu, DJ HUJ), the band began working intensively on their first album, "Intellect Made Us Blind," which was released shortly after that. Meanwhile, ANTIGAMA began to play shows regulary next to groups such as TRAGEDY, TOXIC BONKERS, FLEAS AND LICE and many others. In September of 2001, the band played alongside DAMNABLE and BRAINWASH on the "Grind Manifesto 2001" tour. In 2002, Moretti left the band, who was soon replaced by current bassist Michal Pietrasik (Reinfection). With a permanent lineup now in place, ANTIGAMA recorded a split CD with Jan Fredericx's (Agathocles) project, JAN AG, the band putting on that release its interpetations of songs by Polish Hardcore pioneers SIEKIERA. Shortly after that, an appearance on the "Grind Manifesto 2002" tour followed. In January of 2003, ANTIGAMA recorded "Promo 2003," which was a sample of new material plus a cover of GODFLESH's 'Anything Is Mine' (which also appeared on the "Godflesh Tribute" CD). In July of 2003, ANTIGAMA recorded a split CD with Japanese band DERANGED INSANE, after which the band entered Selani Studios in Olsztyn to record their second album, "Discomfort," under the watchful eye of Szymon Czech. In September, ANTIGAMA took part in the "Grind Manifesto 2003 Tour," at the same time Italian Electro/Industrial band THE SEED remixing the track 'Fala,' taken from "Intellect Made Us Blind." 2004 began with a few shows performed on the "Ten Days Grindcore Massacre Tour" with DEFORMED, while the Spring saw yet another a split CD with Australian band OPEN WOUND. The release of "Discomfort" took place in April, followed in June with ANTIGAMA recording 6 new songs for a 3-way split CD with THIRD DEGREE and HERMAN RAREBELL. After that, the band played the Obscene Extreme Festival 2004 in the Czech Republic - the largest Extreme Music festival in Europe. Most recently, ANTIGAMA played the Giants Of Grind festival in Germany earlier this month.

THE BELLRAYS Kick Off North American Tour
THE BELLRAYS
09.28.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Los Angeles' THE BELLRAYS will hit the road beginning tonight in Dallas, Texas for an extensive North American Fall tour in support of their current Alternative Tentacles full-length album, "The Red, White, And Black." Pioneering a sound described by the band as "maximum Rock 'N' Soul," THE BELLRAYS have been honing their craft over the course of fifteen years. A Molotov cocktail of Rock aggression is liberally infused with a level of raw Soul on "The Red, White, And Black," a powerful combination seldom heard in today's vacuous music landscape. While THE BELLRAYS' sound is something that uses familiar musical reference points, it somehow takes them in a refreshingly different direction. Vocalist Lisa Kekaula's pipes are world-class, recalling the halcyon days of Soul, resonating with undeniable grit and emotion, providing the perfect emotions to accompany the primal, sometimes jazzy Rock stylings of guitarist Tony Fate and bassist Bob Vennum. "Most people think that a record is the complete culmination of all that goes into a band", explains Kekaula. "When you use your voice, guitar, bass, or drums to express feelings where words do not exist, you are your own Superman and Kryptonite. In all that The Bellrays, do there is life, blood, emotion and dedication. We know no other way. For every second of music on this recording there was at least a day that led us both individually and as a group to this point, by either practice, songwriting, fighting, accounting, gigging, sleeping in the van, death, etc. We have dedicated our lives to the art of rock and roll." DIMMU BORGIR Post A New Web Site Update
DIMMU BORGIR
09.28.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Norwegian Symphonic Black Metallers DIMMU BORGIR have posted the following message on their official web site: "Dimmu Borgir are planning to record a video from the 'Stormblast 2005' release together with Patrick Ullaeus and Revolver Films. Shagrath is busy working on his band Chrome Division together with Lex Icon of Covenant, Luna of Ashes To Ashes, Eddie Guz of The Carburetors, and Ricky Black. They are currently working and recording material for their debut album. Their new website will be up and running shortly with more info on the band. Silenoz is working on his project Insidious Disease, and a recording will be ready shortly. They have 12-13 songs ready, and they will put up a strong demo just in case a record company should give them an offer. There will be no live performances for the rest of the year after Dimmu Borgir turned down an offer of going on tour with Korn in Scandinavia. We hope to start working on the new album sometime next month." As previously reported, the updated, re-recorded version of DIMMU BORGIR's 1996 album, "Stormblast," is scheduled for release on November 7th via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was completely re-recorded with producer Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy, Payn) and MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums. The new version of "Stormblast" adds two brand-new audio tracks, 'Sorgens Kammer - Del II' and 'Abmaktslave,' plus a live DVD of an entire set filmed from last year's Ozzfest. DIMMU BORGIR are scheduled to begin writing material for their next studio album this Fall for a tentative late 2006 release. The CD, which will feature also feature a guest appearance by MAYHEM's Hellhammer, will be "a full story/concept album," according to a posting on the group's website. In recent years, DIMMU BORGIR have managed to become one of the most prominent and important Melodic Black Metal acts around the globe. With their new studio album, "Death Cult Armageddon," DIMMU BORGIR reach an even higher level. The band have always stood for the orchestral side of Black Metal, with Classical arrangements having long been an aspect of their unique sound. To give the songs an even more authentic feeling, the band recorded parts of the "Death Cult Armageddon" album along with the Philharmonic Orchestra Prague, which consists of 46 professional musicians. Pronounced "dim-moo bore-gear", the Dimmuborgir is actually a large area of unusually shaped lava fields east of Lake Myvatn in Iceland. The Dimmuborgir area is composed of various caves and rock formations. Apparently, it was formed from a lava lake, out of which molten lava flowed and left behind strange formations. The most famous cave in the Dimmuborgir is named Kirkjan ("The Church") - a high-ceilinged formation with a large, Gothic-style vault.

STAIND Head For 'Fall Brawl' With Labelmates
STAIND
09.27.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Flip/Atlantic Records recording artists STAIND have weighed in with the announcement of a major headlining U.S. tour, dubbed the "Fall Brawl." The cross-country trek will find the band joining forces with Atlantic labelmates P.O.D. and TAPROOT, plus Texas Rockers FLYLEAF, for what looks to be one of this season's more entertaining events. The itinerary is slated to kick off November 11th in San Jose, California and run through mid-December. The "Fall Brawl" tour will see the three Atlantic bands supporting new releases: STAIND's "Chapter V" and TAPROOT's "Blue-Sky Research" -- both of which are in stores now -- and P.O.D.'s eagerly awaited new album, "Testify," which is slated to arrive in January of 2006. Prior to the kick-off of the "Fall Brawl," STAIND will play a string of dates across Canada, running from October 29th through November 6th, as well as shows in Seattle and Spokane with TAPROOT & FLYLEAF opening. In addition, interspersed with the "Fall Brawl" shows, STAIND will play several radio-sponsored events (dates TBA) as well as a couple of special headlining shows. "Chapter V," the band's fifth album, recently made its debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, marking the Massachusetts-based quartet's third consecutive chart-topper. The album follows 2003's "14 Shades Of Grey" and 2001's quintuple platinum "Break The Cycle - both of which also entered the Billboard 200 in the #1 spot. STAIND have spent the summer supporting the release of "Chapter V" with a series of concert dates alongside 3 DOORS DOWN. That tour wrapped up on September 11th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Meanwhile, 'Right Here,' the first single from "Chapter V," stands as yet another multi-format radio smash for STAIND. The track is in its fourth consecutive week in the #1 spot at Rock radio nationwide, hits the #1 spot this week at Active Rock, and has climbed to #2 at Alternative outlets. The song is now crossing over to the Hot AC format, where it has bulleted into the top 30. 'Right Here' marks the band's fourth #1 radio track to date, following 'or You,' 'It's Been A While' and 'So Far Away.' As previously mentioned, P.O.D. are currently putting the finishing touches on "Testify," their fourth Atlantic release and first new music since 2003's "Payable On Death." The album -- produced by the band in collaboration with Glen Ballard (Dave Matthews Band, Aerosmith, Van Halen) -- looks to be the San Diego-based band's most provocative and powerful work to date, with the album's first single set to impact Rock and Alternative radio in mid-November. With a 13-year career under their belts, P.O.D. have logged a remarkable array of achievements, including worldwide sales exceeding 7 million units, sold-out international concert tours and a series of top-charting Rock radio hits. Supported by a passionate fanbase known as "The Warriors," P.O.D. have created what they describe as "a catalog of music that we want to respect and honor with each step into the future." ARCH ENEMY Supporting 'Doomsday Machine'
ARCH ENEMY
09.27.05 (RockAndMetal.com) Melodic Death Metallers ARCH ENEMY have a new guitarist in their ranks who replaces Chris Amott for the band's extensive touring activities, which commence this Sunday in Paris, France. The new axeman is Fredrik Akesson who has already showed his talent with renowned artists like TALISMAN, KRUX, TIAMAT, and in his own band SOUTHPAW. Akesson comments on joining forces with ARCH ENEMY: "I was really thrilled when Michael Amott called me up and gave me the opportunity to play with Arch Enemy. I am excited about going on tour with them, and to meet you all. C-Ya out there - it's time to burn!" Furthermore, ARCH ENEMY have already made a kick start on this year's Ozzfest tour, as their critically acclaimed new album for Century Media, "Doomsday Machine," has sold an impressive 35,000 copies in the United States, dominated the sales at Ozzfest, and made ARCH ENEMY this year's standout, breakthrough artist at the annual festival. Michael Amott's post-Ozzfest feedback thus is understandably overwhelmed: "Wow, that was a quick two months, and we had a blast this Summer in the U.S. The Ozzfest dates were very successful for us, and we enjoyed seeing our music connect with so many fans, new and old. Also, watching our new album 'Doomsday Machine' come out while we were actually in the U.S. (a first for us) was a highlight." To break some European necks again and promote "Doomsday Machine," which was released there on August 22nd, ARCH ENEMY will hit the road beginning from October 2nd on with Roadrunner Records recording artists TRIVIUM. After destroying Europe, the band will ferociously fall into Japan to bring Metal ecstasy to their dedicated fans there. Then, for the first time in the band's long career ARCH ENEMY will head over to Australia to make the koala bears and kangaroos run for cover, after which they will take a month off before playing some live shows in the UK - all in support of "Doomsday Machine." Tour Dates: 10/02 Paris, France [Bataclan] 10/03 Haarlem, The Netherlands [Patronat] 10/04 Koln, Germany [Live Music Hall] 10/05 Eindhoven, The Netherlands [Effenaar] 10/06 Stuttgart, Germany [Die Rohre] 10/08 Ternat, Belgium [Ternat Rock Festival] 10/09 Osnabruck, Germany [Hyde Park] 10/10 Hamburg, Germany [Markthalle] 10/11 Berlin, Germany [Columbia Club] 10/13 Oslo, Norway [Rockefeller] 10/14 Gothenburg, Sweden [Karen] 10/15 Stockholm, Sweden [Klubben] 10/16 Copenhagen, Denmark [Pumpehuset] 10/22 Tokyo, Japan Shinkiba [Studio Coast] 10/23 Osaka, Japan [Zepp Osaka] 10/25 Nagoya, Japan [Zepp Nagoya] 10/26 Hiroshima, Japan [Hiroshima Club Quattro] 10/27 Fukuoka, Japan [Zepp Fukuoka] 11/02 Brisbane, Australia [The Arena] 11/04 Melbourne, Australia [The Palace] 11/06 Sydney, Australia [UNSW Roundhouse] 12/12 Cardiff, UK [Coal Exchange] 12/13 Wolverhampton, UK [Wulfrun] 12/14 Glasgow, UK [QMU] 12/15 Manchester, UK [Academy 2] 12/16 London, UK [Astoria]

NASHVILLE PUSSY Rock Hard On 'Get Some'
NASHVILLE PUSSY
09.26.05 (RockAndMetal.com) While they've been at it for the better part of the decade, NASHVILLE PUSSY -- fronted by the hard-livin,' hard-rockin' husband/wife team of Blaine Cartwright and Ruyter Suys -- have never been more intensely supercharged than on their new album, "Get Some," which has just been released by Spitfire Records. The disc, their fourth full-length offering and first for Spitfire, offers heaping helpings of neck-snapping guitar riffage and a full-on embrace of the sort of good-time decadence that's part and parcel of life below the Mason-Dixon line. It also shows off Cartwright's razor-sharp wit, which permeates the disc with laugh-out-loud moments that'd do John Belushi proud. "Most of this album is based around life in Atlanta, because there's something about the city that encourages people to just get crazy," says vocalist/guitarist Cartwright. "You've got all sorts of music that came from the deep south, from James Brown to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it's all 'whoop it up' music. It's gotta be -- it's too hot to hate down there." "Get Some," which was helmed by producer Daniel Rey (The Ramones, White Zombie, Masters Of Reality), ratchets up the heat even further. In songs like 'Good Night For A Heart Attack,' (which Cartwright describes as "a Van Halen party song , but funnier") and 'Lazy White Boy,' NASHVILLE PUSSY brings the noise with a no-bullshit, blue-collar attitude -- and a goodly bit of Funk. The latter is a key element to "Get Some"'s appeal. The groove-conscious tone is buoyed by the joined-at-the-hip rhythms kicked out by longtime drummer Jeremy Thompson and recently-recruited bassist Karen Cuda, who was introduced to the band by pals in THE SCREAMIN' CHEETAH WHEELIES. The booming low end they supply makes it all-but-impossible to keep a butt from shaking, particularly on a cover of IKE AND TINA TURNER's classic 'Nutbush City Limits.' "We've been trying to nail that one for years," Suys reveals. "It's a natural, since Blaine and I have that married-couple thing going on, but the real reason I've always been into doing it is that it's one of the first songs AC/DC and Brian Johnson did the first time they jammed together." The "married couple thing" is the glue that's held NASHVILLE PUSSY together through several lineup changes and a number of label affiliations. Cartwright, a veteran of high-octane roots-punkers NINE POUND HAMMER, and Suys, a Canadian native who calls herself "a born-again southerner," formed the band in 1996 - quickly churning out the feral, claws-out debut, "Let Them Eat Pussy." "The thing about this album," Suys says, "is that we're having more fun than we've ever had. Me, Blaine and Jer have always had a ball, and now, with Karen, we're finally reaping our rewards. We're enjoying ourselves, and I think that shows in the music." Furrowed-brow types might throw around all sorts of fancy terminology in describing how NASHVILLE PUSSY's hard-edged music cuts to the quick, but Cartwright prefers to put it in terms even the layman can understand: "It's like AC/DC making out with Motorhead while Lynyrd Skynyrd watches."
