AEROSMITH's 'You Gotta Move' A&E Special Will Air On 6/4
AEROSMITH
05.21.04 (RockAndMetal.com) A&E Network will air a two-hour "In Concert" special featuring AEROSMITH entitled "Aerosmith: You Gotta Move" on Friday, June 4th from 9-11pm ET. The special promises to present a raw, in your face look at AEROSMITH as they embark on their latest tour and create their newest album, "Honkin' On Bobo." A&E cameras were given full access to the recording studio, traveling on the road with the band, and inside rehearsals where the band worked up new material and reinvented the old - loading in with the crew and loading out when AEROSMITH's live show moved on to the next city. There are also a few surprises including rare sound check moments, impromptu jams and even some classic past performances never before seen on television. "Aerosmith: You Gotta Move" was directed and produced by music, film and video industry veteran Mark Haefeli, who's most recent critical win came from helping to create the two-hour TV special "Paul McCartney Back In The US," as well as developing the number one selling DVD of all time for Capitol Records of the same title.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE
05.21.04 (RockAndMetal.com) KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's latest release, "The End Of Heartache," is already making history with the band's label, Roadrunner Records. Although their first release on the label, 2002's "Alive Or Just Breathing," already made its powerful mark, "The End Of Heartache" is Roadrunner's 4th highest U.S. chart debut ever - #21, behind only SLIPKNOT's "Iowa" and NICKELBACK's "Silver Side Up" and "The Long Road" releases. "The End Of Heartache" is also Roadrunner's 8th highest sales debut behind only the above three mentioned albums, along with COAL CHAMBER's "Chamber Music," the "Resident Evil" motion picture soundtrack, TYPE O NEGATIVE's "World Coming Down," and SOULFLY's "Primitive." And for those who are curious, rounding out the top 10 is FEAR FACTORY's "Digimortal" and SEPULTURA's "Roots." TRENT REZNOR Files Suit In NY Against Former Manager
TRENT REZNOR
05.21.04 (Reuters) NINE INCH NAILS frontman TRENT REZNOR has filed a countersuit against his former manager for breach of contract and fiduciary duty and conspiracy. In the complaint, filed May 19th in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Reznor says J. Artist Management -- owned and operated by Reznor's ex-manager John Malm -- and Navigent Group, an Ohio company, together took improper control of Reznor's finances and legal documents. Reznor's suit follows a suit filed against him in April by Malm, who managed Reznor from the mid-'80s until last year, when the pair parted ways. Reznor alleges that the defendants withheld money he earned and refused to turn over books and records of financial transactions involving his money. He seeks the latter plus unspecified monetary damages. "Trent Reznor's lawsuit is nothing more than an ill-conceived response to an earlier lawsuit that John Malm was forced to bring in April against Reznor to recover more than $2 million in commissions that Reznor has refused to pay," says Malm's lawyer, Alan Hirth.

CAST ASIDE's 'The Struggle' Full-Length Debut Due In July
CAST ASIDE
05.21.04 (RockAndMetal.com) "The Struggle," the new full-length debut album from Richmond, Virginia Metalcore outfit CAST ASIDE, is scheduled to be released through Deathwish Inc. in July. The band previously appeared on the 7" release, "Overcome." In a time when the darkness of complacency now plagues the Hardcore community, CAST ASIDE have risen as a new dawn to bring that scene into a brighter day. Heralded as one of the leaders of a new breed of Straight Edge Hardcore, CAST ASIDE are rooted in the Straight Edge principles of heart, integrity, and respect. All qualities once thought lost in the Hardcore community's ongoing evolution are reborn as a new fight in CAST ASIDE's never-ending personal war. "The Struggle" is exactly that. The new offering is a true show of strength, sincerity, and intensity in the face of an always present opposition - CAST ASIDE's musical "line in the sand" if you will. "The Struggle" is as much a personal declaration of identity as it is a brute force of Metallic Hardcore power.

CATTLE DECAPITATION's 'Humanure' Due For Issue 7/13
CATTLE DECAPITATION
05.20.04 (RockAndMetal.com) On July 13th, the new CATTLE DECAPITATION album "Humanure" will see the light of day on Metal Blade Records. Be prepared for another nine songs of brutal Death Metal with Grindcore influences. The biggest improvement is the addition of some eerie and epic melodies that will haunt you like CATTLE DECAPITATION never has before. "Humanure" starts off where "To Serve Man," their highly-regarded debut album for Metal Blade left off, dealing with the rape of the earth, it's natural resources, and the unjust treatment of animals. Recorded with producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, W.A.S.P., Six Feet Under) "Humanure" will also feature the latest addition to the band, drummer Michael Laughlin. According to Metal Blade, CATTLE DECAPITATION parted ways with drummer David Astor in May of 2003 due to his inability to live up to the obligations of touring and regular necessities of the band. Once again, CATTLE DECAPITATION's cover artwork is causing some trouble in Europe, as German distributor SPV is already refusing to put "Humanure" into stores as is.

SUGARCULT's Tim Pagnotta Updates Things From Japan
SUGARCULT
05.20.04 (RockAndMetal.com) SUGARCULT singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta recently checked in from Japan with an update on the band's official website: "Hey everyone, Tim here. I'm sweaty, smelly and tired after a great show here in Kawasaki, Japan. We have been playing lots of new songs and working different elements of our music into the show. Marko arranged to have a ton of balloons drop on us at the upcoming show in Tokyo. I just pray the Japanese crew don't misunderstand his idea for water balloons! We've been 'lost in translation' all week. We have also been recently informed that a typhoon is coming into town tonight. It has been raining cats and dogs all day. This could pose a serious problem, considering we have to fly to Sapporo tomorrow. I have been getting lots of e-mails from friends, fans and bitter ex-girlfriends saying that they've seen our video on MTV. That's so awesome. We are all so excited to know that more people will be exposed to Sugarcult music. I can also finally rub it in my parents' face that I'm not taking that summer job at Target next year!!" - Tim

DO ME BAD THINGS Sign A Deal With Must Destroy Music
DO ME BAD THINGS
05.20.04 (RockAndMetal.com) UK nine-piece outfit DO ME BAD THINGS have signed a recording deal with Must Destroy Music. Formed on St. Valentines Day, 2003 in South London, DO ME BAD THINGS - disillusioned and frustrated with popular culture and so called 'alternative' music - decided to construct a "powerhouse" of triangles. DO ME BAD THINGS shatters the illusion that Saturday afternoon 'Top Shop Indie bands' are somehow of any relevance." With influences longer than their rehearsal attendance sheet, DO ME BAD THINGS effortlessly fuses one genre with another, mixing Queens Of The Stone Age with Rufus Wainwright with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with Jellyfish with Steely Dan with Monster Magnet with Turbonegro with Randy Newman with Funkadelic with... blah, blah, blah. The band finally inked with Must Destroy after being persued by several other labels with a lot more money and clout than MDM. DO ME BAD THINGS' debut single will be entitled 'The Song Rides,' and is slated for release on Monday, June 21st on very limited 7" vinyl as well as a CD-single version.

BURNING BRIDES To Release 'Leave No Ashes' June 29th
BURNING BRIDES
05.19.04 (RockAndMetal.com) BURNING BRIDES will release their new album, "Leave No Ashes," on June 29th via V2 Records. BURNING BRIDES were formed in 1996 by guitarist/singer/songwriter Dimitri Coats and bassist Melanie Campbell when they met in college and then went traveling the U.S. looking for the ideal place to start a band. After leaving New York City, stints in Boston and Portland followed before they eventually stopped in Philadelphia in 1999. Fast forward to late 2000, with drummer Jason Kourkounis also now in tow. Now the band was official and began recording their hook-laden debut album, "Fall Of The Plastic Empire." The buzz on the album, which was originally released in 2001 on the tiny File 13 label led to a label bidding war, which saw V2 victorious. Cut to 2002. BURNING BRIDES went back into the studio to re-cut "Fall Of The Plastic Empire" with Howie Weinberg, and re-released it in September. Now 2004 brings "Leave No Ashes." Imagine equal parts Garage Rock swagger, Sleaze Metal hook, Britpop melody and Alternative Rock crunch thrown together in a pile-up on the turnpike, and you get an idea of what the album sounds like.

HEAVEN SHALL BURN Finishes 'Weapon They Fear' Video
HEAVEN SHALL BURN
05.19.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Scandinavian Melodic Dark Metalcore merchants HEAVEN SHALL BURN have finally completed the shooting for the video for the song 'The Weapon They Fear' in an old steel mill in their hometown. During the first part of the shooting on their last live show in Chemnitz, the crowd went so wild that one of the cameras was crushed within the first few seconds of the song which led to 50% of the filmed footage turning out defective. The band still sent out their appreciation, though: "Thanks gals and guys for your support though, this was a truly amazing show that we certainly won't forget!" On the downside, that meant that director Marc Drywa had to film more material to finalize the clip. In return for a helping hand from a bunch of their friends as well as the crew HEAVEN SHALL BURN cooked a nice vegan dinner for everybody. The band's new album, "Antigone" has done relatively well for Century Media Records since it was first released in Europe on April 26th, with the vinyl version currently available through Lifeforce Records.

SIMPLE KID, will begin a new tour of the United States next week in support of the new album "1," finishing up with a stop at the Bonaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. On "1," SIMPLE KID plays everything from a sloppy folkie falling somewhere between Bowie and Beck to an avant-pop singer who could front THE BETA BAND. "I record straight onto this old 8-track, straight onto cassette tape," says McFeely. "And then I feed that song into a computer and then chop it up. I'll write my own song, and then take it and cut it up and treat it like I'm sampling some old record -- sort of in the way Fatboy Slim would take an old record and put beats behind it." Tour Dates:

VOND's 'Selvmord' Is Released In The U.S. Via Candlelight
VOND
05.19.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Candlelight Records has released the rare and controversial recording from Norway's VOND, "Selvmord," in the United States. From the artist more popularly known now as MORTIIS, "Selvmord" is a release that has been unavailable for most U.S. fans and finds a reintroduction to the stateside audience as MORTIIS continues work on his next full-length recording, expected later this year. Issued to limited release in 1997 under the guise of "Slipp Sorgen Los," "Selvmord" is a four-song, 50 minute ambient adventure that showcased the industrial-tinged side of the Darkwave/Ambient artist for the first time. Its album artwork sparked immediate controversy on the album's initial European release, with several territories banning the album. "Slipp Sorgen Los" later featured two different album covers, so that fans in Germany and other censorship-pone countries could experience the album. MORTIIS first found acclaim as the 18-year-old bassist for EMPEROR, the now defunct and legendary Black Metal band.

NECROPHAGIST Signs New Recording Deal With Relapse
NECROPHAGIST
05.19.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Relapse Records has announced the signing of German Extreme Technical Death Metal machine NECROPHAGIST. The band will issue "Epitaph," the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed release "Onset Of Putrefaction," on July 20th. Uniting head-spinning musicianship, incredibly elaborate arrangements and an acute sense of dynamics within composition, NECROPHAGIST have reset the bar for complexity and technique in modern-day death metal. NECROPHAGIST's powerful riffs, mind-blowing sweeps and arpeggios, crisp and crushing percussion and intricately designed songs are at once unequalled and uncompromising. Epitaph is musically infallible, unveiling an invincible technicality so sharp and precise, it threatens to bore a hole right through the heart of the existing Progressive Death Metal playbook. Currently, NECROPHAGIST are also working on a remix of "Onset Of Putrefaction", which will hit stores in the U.S. in August through Willowtip Records. The release date for the rest of the world will be announced soon.

EIGHTEEN VISIONS Set To Release 'Obsession' June 15th
EIGHTEEN VISIONS
05.18.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Southern California Metalcore band EIGHTEEN VISIONS will release their new album "Obsession" through Trustkill Records on June 15th. Obsession, desire, and depression are themes that drive a strenuous romantic entanglement forward, fixations that paralyze and motivate with equal measure and three words -- or at least the first two -- that perfectly sum up the state of EIGHTEEN VISIONS. This is typically the hyperbole-filled part of the bio for a record like "Obsession" where it tries to convince you that it's "the band's most accessible material to date" while "it fails to sacrifice any of the band's signature heaviness." But you know what? Screw that. Because EIGHTEEN VISIONS Visions are going for broke. This is the album of their career. A landmark, a turning point, a clearly articulated punch to the face that drives home the point hinted at with 2002's band-in-transition album, "Vanity," which produced the Headbanger's Ball staple, 'You Broke Like Glass,' that EIGHTEEN VISIONS can become one of THE heavy bands of today. TEARS FOR FEARS' Former Manager King Guilty Of Fraud
SIMON WILCOX
05.18.04 (RockAndMetal.com) The former manager of the band TEARS FOR FEARS has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail for defrauding investors in a purported cure for drunkenness made from volcanic rock. Paul King, 52, was convicted of fraud at London's Southwark Crown Court. Prosecutors said he took $823,000 from business partners in Soba International Ltd., a firm set up to market the remedy in Britain. King told partners he would use his music industry contacts to help raise money to market the product. Instead, he set up a shadow company with the same name and siphoned off money to start other businesses and maintain a luxury lifestyle. Judge Michael King, who's no relation, told King he had behaved with "breathtaking dishonesty." In addition to the jail sentence, he was banned from being a company director for 10 years. According to backers of the remedy, crushed volcanic rock, ingested as a powder, filters alcohol from the bloodstream. Marketing the product in Britain was the idea of two rugby players who saw it for sale in South Africa in 1999.

SIMON WILCOX Releases "Smart Function" Album On She
SIMON WILCOX
05.18.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Canadian singer/songwriter SIMON WILCOX has released her new album, "Smart Function." The daughter of Canadian rock guitarist David Wilcox and UK-based record producer Sadia Sadia, SIMON WILCOX was abandoned at the age of three. A fan of her father's music took Simon in, ostensibly for a month, but her parents did not return, and Simon stayed. By the age of sixteen Simon was on her own, traveling the world. She reconnected with her parents and in them she has found both inspiration and friendship. At nineteen she began her work as a musician. Wilcox has appeared as both a guest featured vocalist on recordings by Ashley MacIsaac, The PocketDwellers, Kevin Hearn of BARENAKED LADIES and many others. More recently, Simon formed the recording label She Records, which she partnered with BMG to release "Smart Function." The new material is a departure, and yet Simon's voice is as strong as ever. "Smart Function" is both remarkably ambitious and highly original. SIMON WILCOX's sheer, strong beauty inspires and resonates.

GRAVE Finishes Recording Of 'Fiendish Regression' Album
GRAVE
05.18.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Swedish Death Metallers GRAVE have finished work on their forthcoming new album for Century Media, entitled "Fiendish Regression." The following message has been posted on the band's official website: "After 3 weeks in Abyss studio, the new album entitled 'Fiendish Regression' is finally finished. 11 tracks were recorded, including 9 brand new songs and a cover version of the SAINT VITUS classic, 'Burial At Sea,' and a re-recording of an old song named 'Autopsied,' which was originally written and recorded for promotion in 1989. The cooperation with Tommy and Peter Tagtgren really paid off, and we are very satisfied with the results both song and soundwise. To say that the songs are brutal would be an understatement. The new blood of Pelle Ekegren on the drums also really shows throughout the whole album. Fast, heavy and brutal is the only way to describe it." In other GRAVE news, the band will also be playing in Sala, Sweden at a release party for the new CARNAL FORGE album on May 29th, as well as at the Party-San festival in Germany during mid-August.

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS Mull New Projects
TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS
05.17.04 (Reuters) Although they are not planning to tour this year, TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS will instead be working on various projects, including a studio release, a live album and another hits package. Due next year via Warner Bros. Records, the new set will be the follow-up to 2002's "The Last DJ." In an interview on the band's official website , Petty says he and touring sound engineer Robert Scovill are working on narrowing the live material to a double-disc release. "We did a live record in '84 ("Pack Up the Plantation: Live!"), and I never thought it was the great live album that this band should put out," Petty said. "So that's kind of another project we have going, to get this live album recorded and out at some point. If it went really quick, maybe it would be out this year." TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS are also planning to release "Greatest Hits, Part II," possibly augmented with new songs, in the months ahead. The group previously issued "" in 1993 and "Anthology: Through The Years" in 2000 - both through the band's former MCA Records label.

GOD FORBID's Doc Coyle Checks In With A Road Update
GOD FORBID
05.17.04 (RockAndMetal.com) In the midst of their touring insanity, the road warriors more commonly known as GOD FORBID check in with the following update: "What's up brothas and sistas! Doc here from GOD FORBID checking in from the road. Sorry it's been so long between updates, but it gets hectic on tour and hard to get ample time at a computer. First off, we are having a blast on the road right now with Machine Head and 36 Crazyfists. It's cool to hang out with old friends like the Fists, but it came a big suprise that Machine Head had treated us like family since day one. We walked into our dressing on the first non festival gig of the tour in Albany, and there was an extra case of beer with a note saying "To God Forbid, Love Machine Head." Anyone who knows us understands the way to our hearts is through food and liquor, so this made for a great start. We are very dissapointed that Arch Enemy dropped off because besides being one of our favorite bands they are good people, so I hope whatever it is that happened gets taken care of. As they say, the show must go on. The Jager..."

NEBELHEXE's 'Laguz Within The Lake' Due Out June 29th
NEBELHEXE
05.17.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Candlelight Records has confirmed June 29th as the U.S. release date for the new album from Norway's NEBELHEXE. Entitled "Laguz Within The Lake," it is the debut full-length album from respected German-born musician and author Andrea Haugen. Seven years after the creation of her self-realized ensemble, HAGALAZ RUNEDANCE, Haugen has created NEBELHEXE as a new vehicle for her music, her teachings, and her muse. Haugen has been active in various occult orders and pagan groups since 1990. She first made name for herself via the dark-ambient project AGHAST in 1994. In 2000, her book, "The Ancient Fires Of Midgard," was published. The book examined Haugen's long-time interests and philosophies on northern mythology and pagan idealogies and has since sold out in several pressings. With three albums and a mini-album under the HAGALAZ RUNEDANCE moniker, Haugen has participated in numerous genre-specific gothic festivals in the past, as well as full concert tours working with a talented and close-knit association of musicians and friends.
