ELECTRELANE's 'The Power Out' Issued Via Too Pure
ELECTRELANE
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) ELECTRELANE's new album, "The Power Out," has been released. These four young ladies from Brighton, UK are known for creating twisted instrumental soundscapes which envelop the senses, and garnered much praise with the release of their debut album, "Rock It To The Moon," in 2001. ELECTRELANE are a recent signing to Too Pure, who has released the new album, which was recorded with veteran producer Steve Albini. Tracks like 'On Parade' mix punk swagger with tight melody, with it's moody erotic strut of a pulse beat complimented by Verity Susman using her voice as an instrument to devastating effect. ELECTRELANE is also planning on heading over to the U.S. for a bunch of live dates, including a couple of shows in Austin, Texas, for SXSW. So If you missed ELECTRELANE opening for Broadcast last year in the states, here comes your second chance.

GODSMACK Finally Comes Unplugged On 'Other Side'
GODSMACK
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) After several months of delay, GODSMACK has finalll taken the acoustic approach on their upcoming album, "The Other Side." Due March 16th, the set features three new songs, as well as acoustic versions of older favorites. "We've always wanted to make a record like this," says vocalist Sully Erna. "It gives us a chance to spread our wings a little bit, and offer the fans something different. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised by it." Among the new songs is 'Touche,' co-written by Erna and Dropbox vocalist John Kosco and guitarist Lee Richards. Also new to the GODSMACK canon are the songs 'Running Blind' and 'Nobody Cares.' However, "The Other Side" mostly showcases stripped-down versions of such songs as 'Serenity,' which will serve as the first radio single from the album. Other reinvented songs on the set are 'Voodoo,' 'Realign,' 'Keep Away,' 'Spiral' and 'Asleep.' GODSMACK also kicks off a U.S. tour March 2nd opening for Metallica.

DIVISION OF LAURA LEE Done Recording New Album
DIVISION OF LAURA LEE
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) DIVISION OF LAURA LEE have finished recording the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, "Black City." The new album, entitled "Das Not Compute," will be released on May 11th. Recorded in Gothenburg, Sweden, "Das Not Compute" takes DOLL to atmospheres only hinted at on their first album, this time with groovier guitars and four-on-the-floor rhythms. This time around they aren't afraid to strip things down even more to create a diverse album that goes from huge walls of guitars to ultra-minimalist keyboard/vocal songs. "Das Not Compute" also pushes the conceptions of rock and punk, with an equal nod to British psychedelia and Washington, DC post-punk. Their lyrics claw at the state of the world and the human condition and after listening to this fiery album, DIVISION OF LAURA LEE will have you questioning everything yourself.

DEICIDE Done With Shooting Of First-Ever Music Video
DEICIDE
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) After 15 years in the business as one of the reigning heavyweight champs of Death Metal, Florida's legendary DEICIDE have shot their very first music video. With a massive catalog of releases under their belt, it's amazing the band has never made a music video. For the historic occasion, DEICIDE chose to immortalize the title track off their forthcoming Earache debut, "Scars Of The Crucifix" -- a song which brutally sums up what DEICIDE is all about. Bone-rattling riffage, firestorm drumming, and vocals from the pit of hell combine to make "Scars" one of the most venomous anthems DEICIDE has ever recorded. Shot in Nottingham, UK by acclaimed UK director Pete Bridgewater (The Haunted, December), the 'Scars Of The Crucifix' video shows the band in rare form, and proves that -- with a new label and a new lease on death -- DEICIDE are back with a vengeance.

LOLLAPALOOZA 2004 Being Scheduled For Summer
PERRY FARRELL
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and The William Morris Agency are putting together a package for LOLLAPALOOZA 2004, tentatively scheduled to go out in July and August., according to Billboard. Last year, the festival returned after a five-year absence, and grossed $13.7 million from 25 shows. High production costs led to the cancellation of two shows on the 2003 route, but most shows went well. Farrell launched LOLLAPALOOZA in 1991, with a lineup of Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Ice-T/Body Count, Living Color, The Butthole Surfers and The Rollins Band. The tour's best year was 1994, when it reported more than $21 million in grosses. The last year before the hiatus was it's weakest run, with $7.4 million reported in 1997, with Snoop Dogg, Korn, Tool, Tricky and others. It's unknown if Jane's Addiction will be a part of the upcoming tour. The band recently canceled shows with Marilyn Manson, citing "exhaustion brought on by a rigorous touring schedule."

DISGORGE Signs New Recording Deal For Next Album
DISGORGE
02.13.04 (RockAndMetal.com) After the surprising success of the band's third album, "Necroholocaust," Mexican Gore/Grinders DISGORGE have signed a new recording deal with Xtreem Music for the release of their 4th album, planned for a late 2004 release. Following is an official statement from DISGORGE which denies all rumors of the band's split that have been circulating during the past several months: "Endless rumours about the band's rupture have been circulating since some time ago, but we don't give a shit about these false rumours, however this has caused the spreading of it in the underground. Now we use this media to make it completely official, and to deny the fact that DISGORGE has ever split-up or ceased it's activity in any way!! The line-up remains like always (since 1993) without any alteration. There will always be some people that will talk shit, but, unfortunately for them, we'll keep our fists high and keeping in our bodies the true entity of death....."

SLIPKNOT Nearly Finished Recording Album, Will Tour
SLIPKNOT
02.12.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Heralded as "One of the best live bands, ever..." by Revolver Magazine, SLIPKNOT have nearly completed work on their third studio album, and are preparing to hit the road again beginning on March 30th - with devastating effect. The band will be showing off new music and a new stage show, as well as a whole new look - SLIPKNOT's trademark visage will be changing significantly for this new campaign. Their much-anticipated, as-yet-untitled third full-length album is due in stores on May 25th. While top secret at this point, the lucky few that have heard the Rick Rubin-produced tracks report that it further pushes the boundaries of this enigmatic band, in all directions: heaviness, melody, and musicianship are all racheted up. Drummer Joey Jordison (#1) says: "We're back and it's been far too long. On the tour we are ready to get completely back-to-basics of delivering unbridled brutality your way. FLOWING TEARS' New Vocalist Creates Heavier Edge
FLOWING TEARS
02.12.04 (RockAndMetal.com) It looks like Helen Vogt, who replaced Stephanie Duchene on FLOWING TEARS' vacant vocalist's spot, not only brought some fresh air into the band, but also triggered the somewhat heavier edge in the band's music. Regardless, the new FLOWING TEARS album, "Razorbliss," -- which was engineered by long-time producer Waldemar Sorychta (Tiamat, Lacuna Coil, etc.) -- seriously kicks a lot more ass than the five previous ones. "It was like we've never rehearsed with someone else" guitarist Benjamin Buss says about their new singer. "With Helen it just clicked, it was pure magic! She really kicked our butts." Draped in atmospheric artwork which adds the optic aspect to the musically interpreted eternal circle of life and decay, "Razorbliss" should have no problem securing a place with both fans of FLOWING TEARS, and everyone who loves emotional Rock music.

NELLY McKAY Double-Disc Debut Album Is Released
NELLY McKAY
02.12.04 (RockAndMetal.com) NELLY McKAY's double-disc debut album, "Get Away From Me," has been released via Columbia Records. A multi-talented "youngster" of 19, NELLY McKAY is already a seasoned performer/singer/songwriter/raconteur who peppers her live shows with acerbic and witty banter in between self-penned songs -- and a well-placed standard or two -- from her ever-growing repertoire. She never performs a song the same way twice, partly because she has difficulty remembering lyrics, particularly her own, and partly because she pledges allegiance to no rule other than to keep her music and her performances as fresh and non-repetitive as possible. "If I write the same song twice, I'm dead," she has been known to say, although she admits to revisiting certain themes, among them death, poverty, anger, philosophy, politics, love in the abstract, animal rights, frustration, sarcasm, self-hate... THE HERETIC Sign Recording Deal With Xtreem Music
THE HERETIC
02.12.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Xtreem Music has announced a brand new signing to their increasing roster of artists, Spain's very own Symphonic Black/Death Metallers THE HERETIC. Originating from Albacete, the band has seen some favorable press in various publications, beginning with their debut album from 2000, "Fallen From Heaven." In September 2002, the band saw the release of their second album, "Chemistry For The Soul" through a small local label that folded just before the release, so the album never got any kind of promotion and distribution. The good news is that "Chemistry For The Soul" is soon to be re-released, with 5 live bonus tracks, via Xtreem Music sometime in the next few months. At the same time, THE HERETIC are currently finishing the arrangements for new songs that are planned to be a part their third album, which is planned to be released sometime in 2005.

1208's 'Turn Of The Screw' Sees Release Via Epitaph
1208
02.11.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Punk band 1208's new album, "Turn Of The Screw," has been released by Epitaph Records. In a scene increasingly littered with mallpunk junk, California's 1208 is a Rock & Roll life raft. Pumping out music with an edge and an intensity sorely lacking in the genre these days, this South Bay-reared quartet effortlessly teeters between melody and mayhem on its exhilarating second album. 1208, formed in 1995 and named for the apartment number the group first shared, plays punk like it's the only thing that matters in the world. Just check the apropos anthem 'Next Big Thing,' which scoffs at the corporate-merger music world's sinister, 'sign 'em and drop 'em' ways; 'Time To Remember,' where power pop and punk fuse with blissful results; or the irate authority-damning charge of 'Smash The Badge.' Such approaches make perfect sense with the understanding that 1208 were weaned in the... [full story]

G.G. ALLIN Will Be Captured In Upcoming Documentary
G.G. ALLIN
02.11.04 (RS) While he was alive, G.G. ALLIN was best known for his blood-and-guts live show, which included such crowd pleasers as defecating on stage and brawling with the audience. In other words, everything but his music. But since his heroin-related death in 1993, Allin's legend has spread, thanks in part to the Todd Phillips-directed documentary, "Hated," and artists like Mike Patton, CKY and Hank Williams III covering his songs. According to Allin's brother (and bassist for his last-ever backing band, The Murder Junkies) Merle, demand for new G.G. product is at an all-time high. And by offering CDs, videos and merchandise on ggallin.com, Merle plans to keep feeding the growing market. Tops on the list is an in-the-works documentary by filmmaker Mark Hejnar, which threatens to dig even deeper than "Hated." "He traveled with us back in the early Nineties," explains Merle. ROTTING CHRIST Working On Material For New CD
ROTTING CHRIST
02.11.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Greek Black Metal masters ROTTING CHRIST are currently working on material for their new, still untitled album, which promises to become both more brutal and atmospheric than all the band's previous releases so far. Mainman Sakis comments: "The return 'back to the roots' that we have chosen throughout the last couple of albums continues with our next record and it really brings back memories of 'Thy Mighty Contract' and will present a perfect follow-up to 'Genesis.'" The release is expected sometime in the Fall. Due the departure of their keyboard player George, the new four-piece line-up touches the earlier 90's philosophy, sound and spirit of the band. Meanwhile, ROTTING CHRIST are playing a week's worth of shows in the UK with DECAPITATED, THUS DEFILED & ANATA before heading off to Norway and Turkey for more upcoming live performances.

JOSS STONE Shines Brightly On 'The Soul Sessions'
JOSS STONE
02.11.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Singer JOSS STONE's debut album, "The Soul Sessions," may well be the best old-school, roof-raising, Southern-style music to appear in the 21st century: a claim made all the more remarkable when you consider JOSS STONE is a 16-year-old girl from England. "The Soul Sessions" features uniquely re-worked covers of '70s soul gems by the likes of Betty Wright, Aretha Franklin, Carla Thomas and more. Creating a buzz is the feature track, 'Fell In Love With A Boy' - a stunning re-working of The White Stripes' 2002 hit, also co-produced by The Roots. Already heralded as everything from a soulful ingenue to "The Next Aretha Franklin," JOSS STONE was named by Q Magazine as one of the Top 5 artists to watch in 2004. "Every so often a new singer comes along that literally knocks you off your feet... Stone makes each song her own -- this soul sonic force is the real deal," says Billboard magazine.

GLITCHED Commences Recording Their Debut Album
GLITCHED
02.10.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Principle recording for the as-yet-untitled debut album from Northern California alternative metal band GliTCHeD has begun. "We began setting up everything immediately after our last show, and spent a week ringing out the tones and positioning the mics before we began. It should be a few weeks, and then we'll begin work on the vocals," says vocalist Vyan. Whatever form the final set of tracks on the album takes, it's clear that the five-piece band don't plan on keeping copies to themselves: "We're already in talks on a distribution deal with companies such as Empire Media in Florida, so we should have the CD out in stores all around the country in pretty quick order. In the age of the Internet and Napster, the need for a label is considerably lessened. Not that we don't want to work with a label -- we just aren't going to wait around for them," Vyan added.

CHEVELLE Checks In With A Recording Studio Update
CHEVELLE
02.10.04 (RockAndMetal.com) CHEVELLE checked in recently with the following update on the recording of their next album: "Hey there people. I thought I would write and tell you all about the progress on this record that we are working on. We are tucked away in our Chicago winter wonderland of a studio, churning out the hits. My head aches from all the creativity that goes on. Pete, Joe and I are everyday working to keep perspective and remember what we love in and about music. We have about 6 songs together now. We want to leave people with something when they finish listening to a song. Convey some sort of a feeling, whether it be remorse or satisfaction. I guess everyone wants something out of their art. So as we put this record together, we are trying to decide where to record all the parts. We will probably do all the drums in Chicago and then head out to Vegas to do all the overdubs. Stay tuned. Good night, Steve Dave."

As for now, we haven't finally decided on any album title. Other news is that the planned tour with FLESHCRAWL won't happen after all. Things doesn't always work out as planned. The current plans are to play a bunch of shows in Germany with SUIDAKRA and another yet unconfirmed band. A Mexican tour arranged by Onslaught Records is also being planned."

DEMILICH Complete Discography Is Being Re-Released
DEMILICH
02.10.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Century Media and Necropolis Records have announced the re-release of the complete discography from early nineties Death Metallers DEMILICH. The sickening, yet mystical DEMILICH are still counted amongst the most influential Death Metal acts from Finland. The band, which is named after a horrible mythological undead entity, rose out of the same deep abyss as acts like DEMIGOD, FUNEBRE, AMORPHIS or very early SENTENCED. Their disturbing debut, "Nespithe," still counts as one of the epitomes of Finnish Death Metal Art. As the album wasn't officially available for years, it quickly achieved cult status amongst veterans of the early Death Metal movement. The DEMILICH re-release not only featured the complete "Nespithe" album, but also contains the extremely rare material from DEMILICH's first demo, "The Four Instructive Tales...Of Decomposition," as a bonus.

EVANESCENCE Grabs Two Grammys At Annual Event
EVANESCENCE
02.09.04 (RockAndMetal.com) EVANESCENCE, who created a storm in the Christian music community last year by disavowing their spiritual roots, won the Grammy Award for "Best New Artist" last night, the band's second award at the event. EVANESCENCE, who was nominated for five awards overall, actually first won attention within the Christian music community. But a year ago, the band opted to focus on the more lucrative secular market. Singer Amy Lee said in an interview last April that if Christian bookstore owners listened to the band's debut CD, "Fallen," they would pull it from the shelves. EVANESCENCE's recording label, Wind-Up Records, promptly recalled the album and singles from Christian stores and radio stations shortly thereafter. EVANESCENCE earlier won a Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" for the #1 song 'Bring Me To Life,' which features guest vocalist Paul McCoy.

CARLA WERNER 'Departure' Debut Hits Stores Today
CARLA WERNER
02.09.04 (RockAndMetal.com) Honey-voiced New Zealand-born singer/songwriter CARLA WERNER releases her debut album, "Departure", via Sony Music today. Recorded with four producers over two years in Australia, the US and UK, the collection of originals, with Werner's intelligent and savvy lyrics mixed in a stunning hybrid of jazz, folk and alternative rock, was inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, Bob Marley, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley, among others. "I think of it as poetic descriptions of what I'm feeling at the moment," says Werner of "Departure." The album finds Carla drawing heavily on life's emotional, spiritual and philosophical truths, giving it a real sense of depth. "A rainy day is the perfect environment to listen to it. Melancholy is really part of everyday life, and my music is a product of that. I don't think that it's the sort of record you can listen to just one time and think, 'Oh, I've got that.'"

The song will appear on JAMELIA's upcoming album, "Thank You", which will be out in March. The young singer recently spoke about the experience of working with Martin: "Chris Martin is a really inspiring person to work with. I absolutely loved every minute of being in the studio with him. It feels like we've created a new genre of music where we both stay true to what we do. I loved the fact that he brought out something completely different in me. That was Virgin Entertainment Group's intent when, in December, it made the MUSIKUBE personal music guide (PMG) available in its Virgin Megastore in San Francisco. New York-based MUSIKUBE is planning to expand the device's availability in VEG's U.K. stores, as well as in other U.S. chains, VP of marketing Sunjay Guleria says. The PMG is a portable handset that enables consumers to roam the store and sample 30-second clips of albums by scanning their bar codes. The wireless kiosk uses a customized Hewlett-Packard iPAQ and in-store Wi-Fi connectivity. There is no charge to customers using the device.
