Lord Gore's 'Dead In The Flesh' Coming
(RockAndMetal.com) (12/29/03)

By Michael Bennett

LORD GORE FARMINGVILLE, NY - LORD GORE are getting ready to start recording the material for many new releases planned for 2004.

Their second album for Razorback Records is planned to be titled "Dead In The Flesh", and will reportedly contain some of the band's most gruesome, powerful, and brilliant gore metal ever.

It will also be datchier than ever before, heavier, with a shocking vocal onslaught like you've never heard before, according to the band.

LORD GORE also has split releases coming up with Blood Duster, and a split mini-CD with Biolich on Australia's No Escape Records.

LORD GORE band members Gurge, SCSI and Maniac Killer recently checked in for the following interview over at Razorback Records:

RBR: Hey you freaks, it's been awhile since we heard from LORD GORE since your debut CD came out last year. What has the band been up to lately? Still jamming FORBIDDEN albums? I finally got "Twisted Into Form" on CD, those vocals are hilarious.

GURGE: FORBIDDEN are godly! FORBIDDEN EVIL is one of the most solo-tastic albums of all time. Still in my top 10 if not 5 thrash faves. We've just been writing and arranging pretty constant for the past 6 months or so. Now we have just a shitload of new songs and covers were doing for the next full-length and splits.

SCSI: We've spent a lot of time writing tunes for the next set of releases as well as played a few shows in the north west. Playing shows has been the major setback as far as getting the next album done because Jesus H Dump and Maniac Killer are brand new additions to the band. They really make it possible for Lord Gore to perform as a complete unit live, but there's been some time lost writing because we've had to go back and sorta re-learn the older songs for live shows. We're really focused on finishing up the writing process at this time so we're trying to hold off on playing live for the time being.

MANIAC KILLER: Yeah, just writting a bunch of new stuff and playing a few shows.

RBR: Seems like the response to your first CD was very positive. Are you guys happy with the finished release now that it's been out for over a year? Are there any things you guys wish you could have changed? I know a lot of people made a big deal about the outro of the CD, what do you have to say about that?

GURGE: Yeah the response has been better than we ever expected for sure, Lots of bands and people we totally respect and look up to have said how much they liked it and that makes it totally worth it even if everyone else hated it. We initially had a bitchin instrumental called "Pathogenesis" that was supposed to be on the cd, but the recording didn't turn out good enough to use. Sucks cause I spent a few hours over the toilet making myself puke on purpose for this sample that happens a few parts of the song. We may include it on the new album as an actual song this time tho. The outro is our idiot test. Those that cant figure out how to push "stop", or get the mark on either forehead or right hand deserve the guillotine. If that sounds ridiculous or obscure, its because rive been diagnosed with kuru and I'm bloody insane.

RBR: I know you've been working hard on new material for a long time. Please tell us about some of the new songs and ideas you have. Any new titles? Will the new material be faster than the first CD, or will you continue to have slower/doomy parts like the first album had? I think a lot of people liked that aspect of the band, along with all the guitar solos as you don't really hear much of that anymore with this kind of music.

GURGE:The new stuff has evolved a bit, but is essentially the same disgusting beast it was before. Kinda like THE THING. We've assimilated Maniac Killer, Jesus H. Dump, a few huskies, a Wilford Brimley, fermented and gestated it in misery and rage, stitched it up and gave it musical instruments and a snort of angel dust. There are faster parts to be sure, and a bit more intricacy here and there, but there are still sludgy funeral doom riffs, tremelo masturbation and gore galore. The new stuff has advanced in theme, lots of mutation, insects, sci-fi horror themes, as well as abduction, torture, brainfucking and sucking, cannibalism... even another zombie anthem called "Trioxin" in praise of that lovely elixir. Also, a sequel to "The Forgotten Flesh" from the first album, and a slab of environmental hamburger helper called "Resickened."

SCSI: It's only natural that some of the music would sound different as we've added 3 new members to the line up that have been involved in the writing process. Most people don't know this, but Colon Bowel joined the band about 1 month before we started recording. The same dark and sludgy vibe is there, but the songs are defiantly more varied in tempo as a whole.

MANIAC KILLER: It's just more varied than the first disc in my opinion. There are parts that are faster than anything on the first CD and parts that are slower.

RBR: I know you have some split releases planned, please tell us about them. Weren't you guys supposed to be doing a split with ENGORGED and also GHOUL? I think also BUNG, right? Has anybody else contacted you about any split releases?

GURGE: Well, there's the themed split with local yokels ENGORGED, a split with BIOLICH of NY, and a 3 way grudge-fuck fest with Leng Tch'e and down under chunders BLOOD DUSTER. BUNG is doing a split with ENGORGED I believe, and as for GHOUL, we'd love to do a split with them if Digestor can lay off the rotgut for one hot minute. I think a Razorback family intervention is in order.

RBR: Tell us some of your plans for the next full-length album. Also tell us about the plans for the album cover, as many people really loved the artwork that was done for the first album. Do you guys think you'll be able to top that, or will you do something totally different this time around?

GURGE: Well for this cover we have a totally different concept. No drawn artwork at least not on the outside. It's going to be something unique and stylized. Lets just say when you see it, You'll be able to smell it, and you sure as hell wouldn't want to taste it. Should make for some interesting T-shirts... Hanes Beefy T's maybe? It'll have 'em in stitches.

RBR: Have any of you guys been jamming in any other bands lately? Seems like things are going really good with the Portland scene lately. Tons of great bands seem to be appearing all the time now. Do you guys get a good response out there when you play live? When Dave is at the local record store looking for "Product of Society" from DEFIANCE on CD, does anybody come up to you and say "holy shit, Gurge from LORD GORE!!"?

GURGE: Yeah bands are popping up out here like whack-a-moles, its crazy. Some of us have other projects we dabble in under secret identities. The only ones I'll admit to are Nanoplague and Portuguese Manowar. I don't even go to record stores anymore cuz they usually don't have shit. Ebay is a lazy metal fan's savior. I did find Void Terra Firma at a used cd place in Seattle recently, and this kid came up and said "Holy shit! can you spare some change?"

SCSI: Everyone in this band is basically moonlighting in at least one other band. I've been jamming in a new black metal outfit Winter Of Apocalypse. It's a throw back to the old school of black metal - Darkthrone, Frost, Satyricon, you know, all the goods. As far as the feedback goes, I've received almost 100% positive feedback from people online. Hell, even my boss said it was better than he was expecting! I had one guy go out of his way to tell me that we needed to not call ourselves a grind band. He was pretty adamant about it too. He must have a lot of free time on his hands... The next release will shut his yapper.

MANIAC KILLER: I play in a few other bands, Frightmare, Nanoplauge and a new band i'm in called Whore with Rob (Fornicator) and Shad (Engorged). It's super sleazy and disgusting Death Metal with bits of Grind, Rock and War Metal thrown in.

RBR: Did you guys ever record the REPULSION cover for the planned tribute CD? You guys got a great response for the totally amazing IMPETIGO cover you did a few years back. Which REPULSION song were you guys planning to cover? Any word on this release?

SCSI: We have no idea if the Repulsion tribute is gonna happen or not, but we are definitely recording our track and will release it, one way or the other. Thanks for the kind words on the Impetigo cover! That song was almost a disaster. We were going to the studio to record it and decided to listen to the original on the way. We realized that even though we had all the parts right, we didn't have the song structured correctly. It made for a really stressful studio session, but everything turned out well in the end. The Impetigo tribute is by far my favorite tribute album to date.

GURGE: We're recording "Decomposed" along with our originals and a cover of Rigor Mortis' classic "Foaming at the Mouth" and most likely Autopsy's "Ridden with disease" I'm not sure when its coming out, but we're recording em all at the same time.

MANIAC KILLER: Were also doing a cover of M.O.D.'s family classic, "Hate Tank".

RBR: Buio Omega Records from Italy is going to be releasing "The Autophagous Orgy" on vinyl soon, tell us how this release was planned out. Any release date for it? Will it have any bonus tracks and other surprises?

SCSI: We really don't have any bonus material to even release! We put it all out on Razorback. Well, there's one song that appeared on the demo that isn't on the album because it didn't turn out so hot in the end. We're gonna rewrite it and give it a go for the next release though. We sent off all of the artwork to the designer a few weeks ago. The plan is to have a 4 panel fold out of the cover art as well as an alternate version of the cover. There are actually 3 different versions of the artwork - no blood, light blood (which is what's on the CD), and heavy blood. At least one of the alternates will come with the vinyl.

RBR: What have you guys been listening to lately? Any good new releases you'd like to mention that you've heard recently?

GURGE: lots of zeuhl dark prog like UNIVERS ZERO, PRESENT, MAGMA, ART ZOYD, SHUB NIGGURATH and such for me lately, as well as older and newer industrial/electric like SKINNY PUPPY, FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY, HAUJOBB, COIL. Not a lot of newer metal gives me a hard on these days. The new GHOUL is pretty tasty, BIOLICH is amazing. Other than that I've just been jamming stuff from a couple years ago or earlier. INSISION, DECAPITATED, HYPNOSIA all kick ass.

SCSI: I've been really digging the newest releases from Aborted, Impaled, Agalloch, Necrophagia, Immolation, Frightmare, Engorged, Rune, FKU, and Leng Tch'e. As far as the classics go, I probably listen to the Dawn Of The Dead soundtrack weekly. Nothing sets the mood like that album. I also listen Naked City, Repulsion, Impetigo, and Carcass weekly.

MANIAC KILLER: Misfits (always), General Surgery, Ghoul (Maniaxe RULES!!!), CCR's greatest hits, Church of Misery, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Repulsion, Murder Basket demos, Bad Brains, Impetigo.

RBR: I heard there were some plans for LORD GORE to do a short west coast tour with IMPALED and ENGORGED. Any confirmation on this?

GURGE: It would rule, but lately there hasn't been much talk of it. Hopefully it will happen soon, it would be killer to play some out of state shows for a change. Ahhh, I can see it now.. plush tour bus, arenas filled with crazed and horny broads, rufies, restraining orders, molestation charges, love children. good times.

RBR: Well, that's all for now. Give some final comments and we'll all be waiting for new LORD GORE material!

SCSI: We're gonna be making some logo stickers soon that we'll have for sale through the website as well as giving one away free with every order. Please buy some and place them all over your lunch boxes.

GURGE: May your graveyards become cafeterias. Prepare to be Resickened!

MANIAC KILLER: Really! Can I get one of those stickers?
