LOS ANGELES, CA - Australian Rockers KILLING HEIDI are back in fighting form with their new single 'I Am' from the "Spider-Man 2" soundtrack.'I Am' will be released on Monday, July 12 in the band's home country. 'I Am' was not only the #1 most added track on Australian radio last week, but the fastest add ever for an Australian act. The Killing Heidi rock juggernaut is set to roll on once again, with the band ready to drop their brand new self-titled album on Monday, August 30th. Produced in LA with John Travis at the helm (Kid Rock, Sugar Ray), lead singer Ella Hooper said the band's new mandate to "keep things simple" has not only provided new-found unity among Killing Heidi's four band members and a lot of musical clarity, but has them experiencing a new-found confidence in themselves. "More than ever before, this record is about us just being ourselves," she said. "I actually wrote 'I Am' in LA after a couple of gross guys wolf-whistled me while I was walking down the street (thus the lyric "I wish I could rip you out of your skin, switch us around and put you back in")," said Ella. With lyrics like "I am out on my own, moving in shadows, nobody knows who I am," it's as if 'I Am' was purpose built to be featured in a Spider-Man movie. Add to that soaring vocals, powerful lyrics and a dark, moody vibe and it's no surprise the songs was deemed the perfect fit by studio executives at Columbia Tristar Films for inclusion on the 'Spider-Man 2' soundtrack. "We were thrilled to have a rare opportunity to support an Australian band on the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack and when we heard Killing Heidi's new single 'I Am' we were astonished by how beautifully their lyrics seemed to capture the emotion of the character Peter Parker in the new movie. The song expresses an isolation that mirrors Spider-Man's lonely quest and burning inner conflict in the continuing story," said Suzanne Stretton-Brown of Columbia Tristar Films. The guys are more than stoked about the video for the track, which has just been released to music TV. Directed by Michael Spiccia and featuring a mighty fine color grade from "Mr. Spider-Man" himself, director Sam Raimi, the clip featues a ton of "Spider-Man 2" footage edited with scenes with of the band in a post-Spidey/Doc Ock fight zone that was actually shot in Redfern, Sydney (though the band swear you won't know it). "The video is a destroyed New York street scene, after Doc Ock and Spider-Man have had a fight." "The whole thing is totally demolished, and there's lots of Marvel Comics skyscraper-style backdrops, which looks fantastic." "It really looks like it's in New York," said bass player Waz. While fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see Killing Heidi play some proper full-length live gigs, the band has been doing plenty of public promo appearances lately. For now, the band are just pumped about getting the new material out there and finally letting everyone hear what they've been working on since we last saw them. "It's a bit of a relief that things are starting to happen because we've been living with some of these songs for the last 18 months, and it's great just to finally have somewhere to put them." "And all the feedback we've been getting has just been awesome," said Waz. "Everyone is really vibed and amped up and ready for the next few months ahead." Copyright 2003-2010 Internet Music Media.
